I never said people do not pay FICA taxes. I have repeatedly said federal income taxes. You know this. Off topic…granted City started off topic

A larger lower marginal rate for a higher amount of income. Then have the marginal rates higher accordingly. I assume you understand marginal and effective tax rates. Maybe not?

While there is technically a difference between FICA taxes and income taxes, it's really a distinction without a difference. Both are mandatory payments to the federal government and for individuals who are employees both are involuntarily deducted from the recipient's gross pay.

LOL ... do you really think you are explaining your ideas well?

"A larger lower marginal rate for a higher amount of income."???

I mean, if you think people with higher incomes should have a lower marginal rate, then gee wiz, that sure sounds like a tax cut for the wealthy... something you previously denied you supported and called me "ignorant" for suggesting you did.

No you didn’t. Link it. You haven’t done anything other than throw a meaningless statement against the wall with innuendo that poor Americans aren’t paying their fair share. You refuse to lay it out clearly because you can’t. That is the subject. You think someone is getting away free from taxes. Who are you talking about?

So should below poverty level earners pay more taxes?

You claimed half of people don’t pay taxes and I called it a bullshit statistic. You were off topic.

There is an absolute difference. FICA taxes pay for specific programs. Federal taxes pay for running all of government. Everyone or at least almost everyone should pay federal income taxes. It we do not need five or six marginal rates either. And the lowest rate can and should be low.

Instead of 0-20550 paying 10% (married filing jointly)…it should be 0-50000/75000/100000 and could be a lower rate than 10%. Then the next marginal rate for the next amount of income would be higher. We need to set the rates accordingly to the revenue needed. You are the only one not understanding. Maybe it is not ignorance for you and instead you are just not capable of learning…

I don't want to speak for QGator here but I think he is talking about Federal Income Tax (F.I.T.) specifically. Everyone recognizes that everyone employed pays Social Securuity and Medicare taxes, which go to a specific program. Along with regional sales taxes when they purchase something, gas taxes when they fuel up their car, etc. The federal government borrows excess SS money from the trust fund, I think it is over $5 trillion at this point in time.

A family of four making more than 60000 plus should pay something. A family of four making 40000 should pay something. A family of four making 25000 should pay something. Does not mean a lot. But something. A small standard deduction would be fine.

Maybe you are just unable to explain the little thoughts that float around in your head in an intelligent way ... word salad like "A larger lower marginal rate for a higher amount of income." isn't getting done. Try harder.

But frankly, you still haven't explained how this is not a "tax cut" that transfers the tax burden from people as you say, making up to $100,000 (who would be taxed, as you just stated, at 10%, or even less) to people making next to nothing. The more details you provide, the more it sounds like a wealth transfer from the poorest Americans to the middle class. And you've yet to explain how people making more than $100,000 would be taxed.... but if 10% is your base, I'm guessing they get a tax cut, too. Pretty disgusting, honestly. Jesus would be so proud ...

I said income taxes. Try to read!

Do you understand the difference in income taxes and payroll taxes? Do you even know what FICA stands for?

I really hope you're right and the Republicans run on raising income taxes for the middle class and poor people. Sounds like a winner.

    Me
How much should a family of 4 making $25k pay in federal taxes so that you have your pound of flesh from the poor? Give me a number that satisfies your disdain.

Neither party will do what should be done. Maybe one day you will thank the pubs for cutting income taxes to zero for so many…

I have already said approximately what I would do. Use your math skills. Pick a rate 2% to 10% for the lowest marginal rate and make the bracket bigger with one standard deduction and charitable deductions. Something along those lines.
