With the DB class we have onboard currently and the likelihood of Cormani joining it, Raymond has to be salivating.
Spencer has plenty of experience, but none as a DC as far as I know. Toney only has 2 years of DC experience at a lower level.
Bottom line, UT has finally found a top tier innovative coach who knows offense and have finally gotten a very good qb. UT has a very good 5 star qb coming in next year and they will be a very good team going forward.
Wow. At least you are consistent, been praising AR since early last year. I would be happy if just half that praise showed up on the field for the Gators.
There are not 3-5 mocks that are down on AR for each one that isn’t. At least not from reputable sources And his current talent is on display during the games. You are looking at results in an old school offense with almost zero attempt at a modern passing game. Scouts aren’t doing that. They look at the film, see his elite progressions, see his great long ball, etc. They aren’t concerned about yards when our route trees put 5 defenders on 2 routes in a small section of the field
It has shown up on the field. I don’t think people understand how laughably poor our passing scheme is. Each game we have a handful of passing plays that would fail with Tom Brady, Justin Jefferson, and Cooper Kupp. We routinely have all routes double or triple teamed
Agree on the scheme for the most part and he's a great athlete but the turnovers and bad throws are on the QB.
And you consider the (almost) complete unknowns of Trapasso, McDonald, and Easterling as the de facto sources on draft projections? I have to give you credit, your white knighting of Richardson is impressive. I have to ask, though, does Richardson bear any responsibility in his poor play (at times), or are you simply going to blame it all on route trees, play calling, or the dew temp of the game? Those same scouts watching film also see his mind boggling INT's, periods where his lacks confidence, and poor decisions at times. Where are all these "elite progressions" you are referring to? If anything, we've seen elite inconsistency...great game against Utah, struggles against Kentucky and South Florida. Fantastic game against UT, followed up a couple weeks later with the worst performance of his career, 8-14 for 66 yds and an INT (albeit in a win) against Missouri. Outside of the TD run, he was completely pedestrian against LSU. In The Swamp. Guess who he gets to face next? Arguably the worst defensive matchup Richardson will face this season. I wish I could be as optimistic about Richardson's potential as you, but it's almost like we aren't even watching the same games.
Oh please. When that happens, someone else has to be open. AR's own qb coach has stated Napier's offense is qb friendly. What I see is AR is inconsistent from play to play, which is not uncommon for a first year starter. You can't tell me AR is a savant at reading the field when I see him throw that pick 6 against UK. He also has been slow getting to his check down, something he's starting to do much better. Newsflash, UT runs bunch sets and two route max protection plays too. I realize it doesn't fit your narrative, but qb's can do quite well in this offense. I just hope AR continues to progress.
You’d be right if we are sending guys out. We aren’t. Protect with 7, send 2 out, and often one dude 5 yards behind the line as a check down. He obviously isn’t a savant. But his current QB skills are good enough to be a 1st rounder.
I wish someone would break it down on film so I understand. How can a coach that spent three seasons coaching WRs at Alabama accept that, if true?
I'm not sure many NFL teams at this point is impressed with more int's than passing TDs. I remember Franks having issues finding receivers. The talk was we had some average wr's and such. Then Trask comes in and boom, suddenly they're open. Personally, comparing AR to Trask I just don't see it. I will say AR is a better runner for sure when he chooses to run. But no way no how is a qb going to succeed in the nfl if he can't pass. Time will tell if AR improves next year as QB. But to think by his body of work so far this year is 1st round draft worthy, I just don't see it. But just my opinion. One day we will know.
What will Tennessee be next year without Hooker and Hyatt? When you ask how did they get so good so fast, you have to ask if they are a one year wonder or can they sustain it?
Looks like they hit on a bunch of things at once. Similar to LSU in 2019, everything just came together nicely
He hasn't been great, but him coming back would be the BEST possible scenario for us. He has shown that he does have the ability to read the field and go through progressions, even if it hasnt been consistent, unlike our past QBs. There is actually a reason to have hope with him, much more so than the ones past
I think AR has a world of potential. However whether he ever realizes that potential to be come an NFL'er is unknowable at this point. At this point, he is in the bottom third of SEC qb's for many stats. My position has been no NFL team will draft a QB in the 1st round based upon potential without the underlying demonstration in play. He would have to improve substantially, which is possible, the rest of the year, to consider leaving. The main point in all these discussions is mid-season, or even mid-game judgements, are usually wrong, whether talking about coaches or players, especially with those coaches or players who are learning or implementing a system. Go and review the LSU game thread and see how many disparaged Kelley and LSU, anointed Kiffin and Ole Miss as the best, when LSU was down 14-3. Consider that as a case in point when talking about our system, our coaches, or players, either in a good or bad way. 7 games into our 1st year coach and 1st year starting QB, our situation and their situation is fluid. Just as in the LSU game in the 2nd qtr.
I don’t know anyone who says coaching doesn’t matter. It’s always a combination. Coaches must have good players and good players must be developed and schemed correctly. It’s way too early to close the book on toney but I agree that I don’t like what I’m seeing.
