Yes, I don't know if you know this... but DeSantis was elected... members of the Florida Legislature were elected... together they pass laws as a result of those elections. As Obama once wisely said, "elections have consequences."
I never said that. My problem with Liz Cheney is she just became "that person who spends all of her time whining about Trump and January 6th."
Yeah, ok. You're good with our tax dollars going down essentially a black hole with no accountability? Schools with high school dropouts as teachers, admins pushing curriculum of warped history lessons like downplaying slavery as an opportunity for the blacks in Africa to come to America to work, and zero accountability. I'm not 100% against the program and I think there are some good voucher schools out there, but as usual it was never fully thought out. You also won't find the better private schools on the list.
So you don't think undermining elections are bad? You don't think gerrymandering unfairly skews elections in favor of one party? If not, you are unlike any Democrat I've ever spoken with. If yes, you are trying to avoid tying yourself to certain stances to help you make the current point, and you're doing so by lying.
If they were inclined to do so in front of their students, then yes, I believe they would be inclined to do so in front of me. It just doesn't happen, Bluke. If/when it does, it's extraordinarily rare.
I'm not a fan of zero accountability. But I think giving parents more options as to where they send their kids to school, even at the expense of taxpayer dollars is a good thing.
I think Obama’s quote and DeSantis’ actions both show that democracy is completely compatible with tyranny. Likely what we should be focusing on is rule of law, where all leaders, democratically elected or not, need to be held in check by the constitution. ‘Tis no law if it can be broken whenever a majority of citizens desire.
Yes, I'm with you that democracy isn't everything. The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land. And guess what, DeSantis has been shot down by the courts several times. That's what checks and balances look like.
So why aren't these schools being at least held to the same standards that public schools have to meet?
They could have a Ph.D. in quantum physics, but it wouldn't necessarily make them a quality school teacher.
To teach is to educate, which is manipulation. We’re all being manipulated all the time. Having said that, I don’t want teachers to shy away from an issue out of fear of the morality police. I want them present all sides of controversial issues - for example, why did the South secede from the Union? - and challenge my opinion. Parents have a right to want age appropriate parameters, but many parents are hamstringing teachers in service to dome political agenda. The way to deal with teachers who don’t respect reasonable boundaries is to take it to the principal, not pass some vague law which undermine teachers. You say you don’t want to tattle, but the law in question requires you do just that! Do it locally. Don’t bring big brother government into it.
I agree the court disagreements are evidence of a properly functioning system. (And you already know my feelings about the lack of disagreement from the legislature) Of course Obama had to deal with the courts as well, and that didn’t persuade many republicans defend his frequent use of executive orders.
Seems like a legitimate thing to whine about. This from a party that spent two years investigating Benghazi.
Having only certified teachers or at least have a college degree Teaching curriculum that is in line with the state department of education guidelines and publishing them Standardized testing to gauge that children are learning at least on grade level. Publishing graduation rates Maybe even grade teachers to gauge if they are highly effective. Just like public schools
I think you have to separate the skill sets of curriculum development and the act of teaching. They are not the same. I always thought it bizarre to have every teacher trying to develop their own. Have the teacher focus on the act of teaching and connecting with students. Have strong feedback loops to curriculum developers. It is not like we are asking too little of teachers.. unfortunately, politicians and their families have figured out that renewing digital school supplies are big money.
The law is ambiguous, which I am guessing was intentional. In one county (possibly Broward), gay teachers were told to not have photos of their significant others in the classroom.
