The implication you seemed to make in the post below is that "Republicans" are putting party before truth and law by removing Liz Cheney and that this is a move unique to Republicans. If that is not the case, then say so. This whole post is picking on Republicans as though the issues you're complaining about are unique to Republicans and not the norm in politics.
I don’t claim to know the answer. But I’m not the type to tattle on a teacher. Principals are overwhelmed by so many whiny parents. Not our style. I’m lucky my children are open and transparent with us. There are lots of children who don’t know any better and are able to be manipulated by teachers.
SCOTUS has been very balanced until Trump. Roberts and Scalia (RIP) were the moderate republicans. When one party wins the presidency, typically his party loses the house/senate which created balance. Now it just creates gridlock. You can't stand in judgement when a once in 100 year pandemic hits, it was erroring on the side of caution. Not a terrible thing. You should switch the role on your last sentence, and then think about it. If and when a dem governor does the same thing, because they can, we'll be screaming about overreach again. Which now will happen, you can thank desantis for that. We don't have checks and balances here in FL
True I didn’t say that or imply that. You made that up. While politicians are politicians, in following 50 years of politics I’ve never seen anything quite like this from either party. But to be clear, I don’t think politicians are any different. They are people. What is different is the voters - and in the case of the Republican Party it has been infected with this whole MAGA thing, and most Republican voters demand adherence to MAGA. While there are some crazy democrats on the left, they as a group don’t suffer from quite the level of mass delusion as Republicans do. But whatever the case, that isn’t the point. I summarized what you said as party over truth and the law. I think my summation is correct. “But Democrats!!” is a complete side issue.
"But Democrats" is the entire point if your criticism is that Republicans place party over truth and law, which in this case really just means "you're going to get kicked out of the party if all you do is bite the hand that feeds you." If Democrats are exactly the same way, then what exactly is your point? Why pick on Republicans? You don't get to pick on Republicans for X, when Democrats are also guilty of X, then call it whataboutism. That would suggest you're motivated by politics, not by "truth and the law."
Well, if there WERE those programs, you'd be able to opt out, but since there are NOT those programs, you need not be concerned. On the other hand, not only are they taking away from public school funding by spending millions for vouchers, they are expanding the program, so it'll cost even more: Florida's Hidden Voucher Expansion: Over $1 Billion From Public Schools to Fund Private Education Now, how much is being spent on "diversity, equity and inclusion" programs?
Yes, I can. Every authoritiarian regime said there were good reasons to abuse their power. The Biden Administration attempted authoritative action, and here you are justifying it while simultaneously whining about DeSantis's alleged authoritarian action. Yes we do. You just don't like the outcomes as of late.
Then the whole world became authoritarian during that time frame. It wasn't called "novel" for nothing. You think we have checks and balances? How about the gerrymander map desantis pouted over, changed and sent back to the legislature. They turned him down, so he called a special session and they passed the same map. He split up predominately black districts to blend them with traditionally republican districts. Checks and balances!
So, according to that link, that is across America, not just in Florida. My number is just Florida. $1 billion. Also from your link: The nonprofit's mission is to fight what it sees as indoctrination in the classroom and to promote the restoration of a healthy, nonpolitical education for kids through network and coalition building, investigative reporting, litigation, and engagement on local, state and national policies, according to its website.
Also, there are plenty of republicans (mostly retired) who are also “picking on” Republicans for their current state of mass lunacy.
Yes, pretty much. The whole world lost its mind during COVID. Yes, I do think we have checks and balances. "Undermining our elections is bad. Also, DeSantis's elections maps suggest that he will be stealing elections." "You think we have checks and balances, well... both DeSantis and the legislature agreed on something, so that something passed."
You have Liz Cheney Adam kinzinger Mitt Romney George W Bush Charley Sykes Steve Scmidt (and the rest of the Lincoln project) All of these are current or former republicans who at some level are criticizing Republicans for the current state of affairs but by your logic you should never criticize your own party and always focus your ire on the other party.
It's not about the money, it's the cause. I'd gladly pay more taxpayer money for vouchers. Which by liberal logic, means I'm charitable. If you think DEI programs try to "fight indoctrination" and provide "nonpolitical education" for kids, I'm sorry, but I just don't trust you. THAT is lunacy.
