This is along the same lines of argument I made to bluke above. If a party is permitted to set the educational agenda, these agendas will always be objectionable to many. That said, I agree with mom above that even if we don’t have public schools, we should have publicly funded schools. Even Milton Friedman believed this to be an essential role for government because a functioning democracy requires an educated populace. This of course doesn’t solve the curriculum issue, but having school choice should help it, as different schools will take different stances on gender issues.
Man is that true. So true. Private school students are still high schoolers. They still act like high schoolers. They still lead separate lives that we as their parents know nothing about, even if we think we do, and even if we are involved parents. My wife and I were as involved as possible, me helping run the Dad’s Clubs and her the Mom equivalents. Occasionally you would catch a glimpse, overhear student clatches and realize how little you knew. My favorite was when my daughter was at some school event the wife and I were both “working”. She would interact with us intermittently, reaching out first by text. One time she accidentally texted me thinking she was continuing an exchange with friends. A totally different person. She’s a great kid, now a great young adult. They almost all are, whether at public or private school. I love seeing the kids that grew up in her group mature into young adulthood, even if some had some bumps along the way that worried their parents. They are all wonderful. I love my daughter but would be proud to claim any of them, some of whom still face daily challenges. But they are not who we think they are or who we think they must be to succeed. We have wisdom they should listen to more, just like we should have from our parents. They would avoid certain hardships and setbacks if they listened more. But they are human, and they are good. Even if they are “public school” students.
You described the situation and wrote everything except the ending. You are so close, but couldn’t find the courage to finish your thought. Why? Why are you pretending to be oblivious to traditional folks like me? That is the reason Ron did this. It is clear as day, liberal progressives are moving in fast and then you guys scratch your collective heads. Weird that you don’t see how this works. Right or wrong, isn’t my point here. It’s just easy for me to see why and how we got here.
Interesting that you didn't cite any instance of this, just a blanket statement in the hopes it confers expert status upon you. Then, Mr. Expert, you announce you're going to take your ball and go home, secure in your self-righteousness. In fact, Mr. Narrow Minded, I don't know of a single person on this site who has advocated teaching "transgender and lbgt stuff" at any grade level, and I challenge you to provide a single instance of that in a K-3 class. What has happened in enlightened America is that followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ are urging tolerance and acceptance of differences. It's called "kindness", which we should all practice. Sadly, this will fall on the deaf ears and closed minds of the knuckle-draggers, who will brand those who practice kindness as "libbies".
Well, that's exactly what we are looking at because there are no lesson plans for CRT and sex ed in elementary schools. I've said it before in here, middle school has sex ed and parents can opt their kid out, elementary does not. Why do we need a law?
The left always tips their hands, if it wasn't already happening they wouldn't be so pissed about the notion that basic common sense says it shouldn't be happening.
You are naïve about the legal system. The teachers will have to probably pay their own legal costs, and the lawsuits will be prosecuted in way to maximize cost and harassment. Intent is a great defense but it’s a factually oriented one. Asserting factual defenses as opposed to purely legal defenses is incredibly expensive. It requires discovery and usually requires you to go all the way to trial. The so-called plaintiffs suing them will likely be represented by legal groups that are independently funded legal culture warriors. But the plaintiffs themselves will likely be uncollectible, even if the teacher wins. It will bankrupt them or drive them out of the profession, which is the point, to destroy public education and harass people who are considered nonconforming.
Sadly your ears are equally deaf. Do you really think Ron created a law out of thin air? Or mr open-mind, do you really want to know why cons feel the way we do? Based on your previous response, I’m not sure you care about everyone as you say you do.
With all due respect, that makes zero sense. Sex ed has no business in the primary grades period. Who wouldn't agree with that??? Anyone?? Tip your hand, don't be afraid. I thought I did finish my thought considering the poster I was responding to. Could you elaborate? I'm getting old, so..... Where are the circumstances on a wide scale where the "liberal progressives are moving in fast"? I seriously don't recall hearing about any lefties trying to infiltrate the schools with LGBTQ parafanaila - I do remember someone handing out mini bibles. I was like, meh, if you don't believe then toss it. I don't think I'm oblivious at all, but that is why there are private christian schools if you want an atmosphere where they only talk about what you want them to talk about. There has been a movement for a long to time to get rid of public schools, so I guess when they realized they couldn't, they now are trying to make them more like private schools; "morally" of course. Again, there is no curriculum for sex ed or CRT in K-3. There's no there there.
Ron is in touch with the base. He believes, and rightly so, that Florida is turning more and more red and is taking calculated risks with this and many other things. His state supreme court is stacked with uber cons (as you call them) and the legislature is nothing but a lap dog. What will get him re-elected is the litmus test. So yes, while not out of thin air, pretty close.
He had his law written for him by a right wing think tank. That's how this stuff always works. We know the way right wing minds work. When you hear LGBTQ, your reaction falls somewhere in the groomer/indoctrinator/pervert/pedophile range and your call to action falls in the lock yourself back in the closet/jail them space.
Yes, I do, and I can't help but notice you never, to my knowledge, back up your statements with facts. Here, for example, you provide no actual problem that called for the law. Similarly, the other day you were bitching about "libbie" teachers in classrooms indoctrinating students. I asked you to provide an example of that absurd statement, and you've yet to do so. You're not a conservative. You're a reactionary.
If you’re going to come for my throat, you better have all your ducks in a row counselor. I did state evidence. My daughters both have returned home from govt school to tell her parents about the teachers ridiculing Trump and the Conservative party. The teacher in my older daughters classroom took it a step further. She asked the classroom to raise his/her hands if they or their family voted for Trump. My 12 year old girl at that time was plenty confused and felt cornered. Oh and this occurred in a very red county school system. I’ve NEVER met a libbie who didn’t know more than everyone else in the room. Do not tell me that these ever so prevalent libbie teachers are holding back from preaching their garbage to my kids. Govt elementary schools should stay away from the Bible as well as LGBTQIA’s and CRT and whatever the next amazing progressive idea is.
If that's how you read that, you either don't know how politics works or you've just drank the Kool Aid where Republicans are devils and Democrats are angels. If you honestly think that a Democrat who spends all of his/her time whining about how bad Democrats are wouldn't be removed from the Democratic Party, you're not as smart as I thought.
Did I say that? Even the post you quoted suggests that there's more reasons than education to send a kid to private school. Some of you guys need to work on your reading comprehension.
You don't want your taxpayer dollars going towards "fake Christian schools," I don't want my taxpayer dollars going towards "diversity, equity, and inclusion" programs...
Generally negative, but it doesn't mean everything they do is wrong. But it's mostly used as a pejorative these days.
When Democrats control Congress, the Presidency, and the SCOTUS... it's "the system working like it's supposed to." Hell, the President can even legislate COVID requirements in the workplace via OSHA, and that's the system working as it's supposed to. When a (hated) Republican is Governor of Florida, every institution is a tool of the Governor, and it's not democracy with checks and balances at work... it's just an authoritarian at work.
IF the examples you state are accurate, the teachers were way out of line. Rather than generalize and accuse schools of harboring liberal nut jobs, you should have immediately gone to the principal. The solution is not to pass a law and empower our version of Iran’s morality police.
