The modern Christofascists are really no different than the Jim Crow segregationists. They hate equality and progress.

Irony is that a Democrat tried to amend Don't Say Gay to prohibit discussions of sex, and the Republicans voted it down. Don't Say Gay doesn't prohibit descriptions of sexual acts or instruction on that topic. The more you know.

Public schools educate everyone and even have tests. Imagine, checking outcomes.

Private schools, not so much. But they do a really good job of lumping like socioeconomic statuses together. Lets face it, educating children who are around robust language, books, tutors and other educated people probably have a leg up and are easier to educate.

Funny thing is everyone wants to reinvent the wheel. Reading education research has been consistent for several decades, is it used everywhere? Sort of like causes of diabetes ;) or the parroting of false talking points which murdoch our brain cells.

If you say so, Dyno. But you can't tell me that some teachers need these guidelines.

No the aca was a disaster of a bill though. Thankfully we still have our grandfathered policy. Surprised we still do.

You are just making nonsense up to say DeSantis has a hate filled agenda.

More on equivalence of public school vs private school outcomes

Public versus private school — a study found just one factor can make all the difference.

“However, a recent study that showed better private school outcomes has a huge caveat.

When family wealth is factored out, the difference in private and public school outcomes disappears entirely.
Researchers at the University of Virginia found thatwhen socioeconomic factors were controlled for in the study, all of the advantages of private school were negated. The study also found "no evidence to suggest that low-income children or children enrolled in urban schools benefited more from private school enrollment."

Kids from the same socioeconomic class have similar outcomes, whether they attend public school or private school. In other words, it's the ability to afford private school that makes the difference, not private school itself. Since private school attendees tend to come from wealthier families, they generally have better outcomes.”

Back during the Bush administration they commissioned a study to show private schools were better in order to push vouchers, but it backfired.

Public schools perform favorably with private schools when students' income and socio-economic status are taken into account, according to a new report from the U.S. Education Department. The findings counter a popularly held notion, that private schools outperform public schools.

    This should not surprise anyone.

On a side note…this should infuriate everyone as it also defines who was harmed by our idiotic Covid policies to keep kids out of school. Those with means will not be harmed that bad. But those without were harmed greatly.

Some people shouldn't have guns either. Like I said, deal with it on a case by case basis, we don't need a law.

Unions make it almost impossible to fire teachers that should be fired. I think this new law tilts the power back to the state.

Then change the structure. It's a vague law that just wasn't thought out. Smells of overkill and political posturing. People on the right don't want to create laws that make it harder to just go out and buy an AR-15 that kills many people at once because most gun owners are responsible, right? Most teachers are there to teach, not impress kids with their political views. So the same applies here.

I think drugs are in every school, all 3 of my kids went to private school, one is still there.
They claim more drinking than drugs.
Pot was the main thing they have seen and heard about.
Maybe the larger cities have more issues, here In Gainesville not as much

    Admittedly anecdata.take it FWIW

Wife did not go back after COVID, but visited with a colleague tonight. Colleague still in system, teaches World History to 6th graders. Just finished the unit on democracy. She says the same kids that she hears tell their peers that evolution isn't real try to "bait" her to say something positive about democracy generally so that they can report her. She just goes to the materials and recites when questioned, doesn't talk about democracy as a positive in and of itself.

It is really easy to fire a teacher in Florida, being a right to work state.

My kids go to private school and I assure you they have tests. My daughter is taking 3 AP classes currently as a junior and is inundated with work/preparation. Schools, both public and private, have different lanes kids can pursue. You can hang back and take the basic courses or challenge yourself with AP, Honors or even IB curriculum. There is no right or wrong answer in my opinion but rather where I feel most comfortable with my kids and their education. Thankful I have choices.

Private schools can teach well behaved children that are there to learn. Public schools have 85% there to learn, and 15% percent to act the fool which takes up most of the teaching time.

    that sucks.

Parents that could not name their kids school or find their way there, parents that cussed out concerned teachers that called them during Jeff Foxworthy are now "involved" in their kids education cuz they may hear something that contradicts the Bible or fascism or some dumb asshole like Trump. They are the BIG GOV foot soldiers in the war against western civilization.

Bobby just wants to make warshing machines & Trump give him 'at!*

Hmmm, public school teachers aren’t exactly masters of the classroom, huh. What an idiotic statement to make. Public school teachers as a rule get paid higher and have better benefits but you are saying the better instructors ignore that and instead go to teach at private schools?

Sure, there are some very good private schools with some highly qualified teachers but you better be prepared to pay $15-$20K to send your kid there. Any thing less and you normally aren’t getting the education you can get at a public school.

Lastly, a kid who wants to learn and lives in a family where education is truly valued and supported, will normally thrive in school be it public or private. Both of my kids recently graduated from UF with both undergrad and master’s degrees after attending public K-12 schools and personally I am glad I didn’t waste thousands and thousands of dollars going the private school route.

They don't take the FCAT. More than half of the school year my DIL is prepping the kids for the FCAT. Standardized testing is not forced on private schools

Was he talking about the FCAT? If so I misunderstood. Definitely don’t have that in private schools I agree.
