I keep hearing Qua would be an edge or possible linebacker. Smith is that inside monster we are hoping for.
I'm just remaining cautious about this and I think it's due to more scar tissue of losing these types of battles with the last two staffs more so than it being an indictment on if this staff can recruit 5*s to Gainesville
you have to be "in" battles in order to lose them. Just that we're even in the conversation for 2 out-of-state 5* kids is a huge step up
Yep along with Cormani too. These types of kids would have already been committed to Bama if it came down to UF and Bama in the past for highly rated kids. We see Bama still pushing to flip Kelby Collins which goes to show you that the staff got a good one coming in.
I will keep my sanity about defense by thinking what the current class will do in 2 years, ESPECIALLY if we pick up the afore-mentioned three .............. we should be BACK to the Gator standard and maybe ELITE!
He's listed as EDGE and it seems most talk about him there, but on film he plays quite a bit of LB as well and looks great there, which seems to suggest more of a Buck/OLB position, but he might be good at ILB too. He's like 6'2 230. Could be that 3-4 LB/DE we'd love to have to keep offenses guessing. With the rest of our DE class and our need at LB, I'm just guessing they want him there. I compare him with Malik Bryant, who's listed as LB but I think all his highlight are him playing standing up Edge. They're the same size, but Qua seems quicker and I remember several of his highlights as a LB and flying around. Edit: ESPN has him as the #1 OLB. Others as Edge/WSDE.
Bama has one DT and two smallish DEs at the moment. They are def going to press hard. Looks like they really need him.
I would prefer him at LB. I like our DE to be 6'5" at minimum. It was so frustrating seeing our edge guys missing batting down balls from Daniels by 2 inches. A guy Iike Keeley in the 23 class or Rushing in the 24 class could bat those down.
Before Grantham we always has a decent to great defenses... what changed these last 3 years? NOT the offenses like some have suggested, but it's that went to a 3-4 base defense. I'd rather we make the edge rushers or DEs a hybrid that moves around on the line and sometimes plays in the LB position, with 4 big-nasty defensive tackles on the line of scrimmage. If we don't pressure the QBs in the SEC they will pick us apart, and no amount of skill on our back end (DBs/Safeties) can cover receivers that have all day long to run around to get open.
I KNOOOOOW im not the ONLY one that thinks that these two are only a package deal to Bama but Qua seems more on board with going somewhere else without James Smith. basically it wouldn’t shock me to see Qua go somewhere other than Bama with or without Smith
Why would to go to a team that will sit them on the bench? Because Bama has a waiting list of talented players ahead of them on that team already.
