What Would You Do If You've Tried Everything on Defense?

In my uneducated opinion the man coverage doesn't seem like our biggest problem. It's the zone stuff where the safety is just watching the game while his area of responsibility has receivers running wide open.

short term: focus on fundamentals and simplify. Piss poor tackling can be corrected if it is worked on consistently.

That's guy's a genius ... in high school coaching. He got hired at Presbyterian College last year & his system didn't work so well there (2-9 & 0-8 in conference).

 

No days off for the D for the next 2 weeks. Film study every game for 10 hours first week. Practice for 10 hours every day the second week.

Can't win TOP unless you get off the field on 3rd downs. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. We have shown we can score quickly. Maybe if Johnson or Lingard break off a long run just tell them to fall down 12-15 yards downfield to keep the clock running. Same with catching a pass.

 

I was pointing out what we are doing is what you do after you've tried everything.

Line everyone up on the line and blitz every down. Can't get any worse. In fact, I would PI until they got into the red zone because our best defensive play in the secondary is when the field shrinks.

 

Immediately hire a defensive analyst like Bama & Georgia do.
Throw the kitchen sink at G. Collins and make Toney work with him.

We might as well try to disguise a blitz or two on first, second and third downs.

Maybe load the line/box and blitz 7 or 8 guys with stunts to confuse the O-lineman?

We are NOT fooling anyone with our schemes set plays on defense.

 

The defensive goal are to maximize the % of stops. First punts and then field goals.

I guarantee all out blitzing and playing man would get more stops. We’d give up more big plays. But we’d get more stops.

 

You mean zone defense where the underneath layer is 15 yards off the ball and behind the 1st down while the back end remains 30-40 yards off the ball isn’t ideal?
