What takes up 12 parking spaces?
    5 female drivers.

Meh, our public schools own that title by far.

Reminds me of when I was in Boston, visiting a daughter a few years ago. I rented a car from Enterprise and the young lady salesperson with ENterprise drove me to the train station. We talked and I asked her if she was teased by her co-workers for being a poor driver (as she was female/Asian/wore glasses). She said “yes, all the time”. Then, she delivered the clincher: “and it’s true! I’m a terrible driver!” I laughed and laughed. Classic.

you have no proof that public schools are "dumbing down America " In fact I am very proud to send my kids to public schools and will never ever accept charter schools as an option. As a parent I am overall responsible to build on the schools teachings.
Provide proof of your generic comment or simply shut up.

So are your kids in the Maldives? Or where they left at home? As a contractor are you paying taxes in the state of legal residence? If you aren’t paying local school taxes, zip it.

And they are still working hard to defund our public schools and throw the money to fake schools. Someday we'll know why.

You are the quintessential 2022 thought provoker.
    1. Not a contractor.
    2. Myself and my family reside in central Florida.
    3. My kids attend school in Central Florida.

I am paying, and always have, my taxes so count on me to NOT ZIP IT! Sorry I can't accommodate your way off the mark point.

My kids go to private school but that’s my choice. A lot of my friends kids go to public schools and do great. It’s more about the involvement of the parent/parents which makes either school choice effective or not. The issue with our schools largely starts with a lack of discipline or oversight at home.

My kids went to private schools. If you live in an area where the schools are terrible or dangerous why would you happily send your kid there? Wasn’t a school in Tampa recently named one of the most dangerous in the uS?
And why are grown men/women (assumptions made about being grown) telling each other to zip it like we are on the playground?

I am fully aware of how charter schools work. My wife taught in one for 10 years. They are free and publicly funded. They do offer some freedom for parents based on school charters which is a good thing. But they are without question public schools.

The freedom to send your kids to public, charter, or private school is a huge plus imo.

There are bad and good public and charter schools. Can’t say much about private ones as I have no knowledge of any.

Oh there are definitely bad private schools, both church affiliated and unaffiliated.

As the study already mentioned in this thread noted, the results are driven mostly by socio-economic advantage, adjust for socio-economic status and the differences go away. If you are in an extremely bad school district or worried about violence, there is some value in getting your kids out of there for sure. Really depends on the particular school district. In typically average to excellent school districts it’s more of an “elitism” thing than value add. In the “big picture” wholistic data view the ROI isn’t there, just as it often isn’t in higher Ed for public universities vs. private colleges, not unless that private college is Stanford or an Ivy League. There are a ton of below par colleges that charge way too much (and that’s before we even get into the fraudulent “for profit” schools who prey on the uneducated and on working people).
