Tonight it will be fresh fried catfish, cheese grits, hush puppies, and Ms. Jan’s homemade coleslaw. The longnecks are ice cold and the wine is chilled. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Tonight we’re going to be treated to Ms. Jan’s boneless chuck roast beef stew-vidalia onions, baby carrots, Yukon gold potatoes, and celery, simmered in as good a gravy as I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. I will fry cornbread to go along with…. Beautiful day here to anchor the weekend with-hopefully everybody’s is good. The back porch is open, restocked, and ready to go. Life is good in Gator Nation!
For LSU weekend I usually make a shrimp, chicken and andouille gumbo. But after going big & heavy all week, with the pulled pork, chili then pizza I’ve decided to just have soup for tonight. Broccoli & beer cheese soup. Thinking my son was coming over to join us for the game, I have more than enough boiled peanuts defrosted anyway. He had to cancel last minute unfortunately. But I’m sure I can handle it. Go Gators!
Mahi with a panko, cilantro and macadamia nut topping. Asperagus as the green side. Spicy wahoo dip with rice crackers as an appetizer.
Tonight-leftovers it is! I’ll watch the Yankees play the Indians tonight regardless of what the sensitive side wants to call them…..they will always be the Indians with Chief Wahoo! The longnecks are ice cold and the wine is chilled. Life is good in Gator Nation!
The wife and I decided to take a drive through the countryside today along the NY/VT border. We hit some antique shops and with the foliage at peak currently, the views were stunning. We had a late lunch at a deli we stumbled across, which was really good …so probably going to pass on dinner tonight. I usually don’t eat much during the day. Maybe a yogurt in the morning and nibble on fruit a little later. So Having a turkey/bacon club and kettle chips @ 2 in the afternoon has completely wrecked my appetite. But overall a fantastic day.
Tonight we’re going with a new recipe for us. We are making Fajita Chili. Pretty much what everyone that cooks would expect for ingredients. Boneless chicken breasts sliced into wedges. Olive Oil, minced garlic, diced vidalia onions, sliced green and red bell peppers, kidney and black beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Fajita seasoning, chili seasoning, and salt/pepper to taste. Garnish will be shredded Sargento Tex-Mex cheese, chopped cilantro, diced spring or green onions and sour cream. Multi-grain Tortilla chips on the side. Dos Equis Lager longnecks are on ice as well as Ms. Jan’s chilled wine. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Chili spaghetti for me and my son. My wife and MIL are on there way to Portland, OR. Just finished the round trip from Gainesville to Orlando and back.
Well, the Fajita Chili was really good! Can’t imagine it disappointing anyone that likes Mexican food. Tonight I’ll be grilling chicken wings seasoned with coarse black pepper and Everglades Cactus Dust. Our sides will be a cold tray. The back porch is restocked and ready for your leisure time. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Finished off leftovers last night. Tonight it’s white chicken chili. My MIL is flying up from Jax tomorrow and staying with us thru the weekend. She has requested Sunday Sauce. Don’t have to twist my arm. It will be a busy day in the kitchen tomorrow.
Since it is just me and my veggie avoiding son its brats and mashed potatoes. I will also have saurkraut. Very German. My wife and I visited Munich for a week many years ago. Fantastic beer but the food was predominately beige. After a few day we went to an Italian resteraunt so that we could get a grüner salat (green salad). And when I didn't see grappa for an after dinner drink on the menu I asked if they had any. Started drinking free shots with the owner and some of the kitchen crew. That has happened before for me.
So, Lurk— Is the moral to the story that your son got to drink free shots at your house last night after supper? It has happened before!
I don't have any grappa right now. Last night was chili spaghetti and not exactly a Mexican dish, so no tequilla shots. Speaking of tequila my favorite for margaritas is Espolon blanco and I have been having a hard time finding it lately so we have been using Hornitos instead. Of course there are better tequillas like Don Julio and Casa Dragones and the like, but those are for sipping and not shots or margaritas
Pre-Covid we were usually in Bonn every summer for a conference, and travelled elsewhere in Germany, including Munich. German breakfasts are good, but I would never combine the words “Gourmet” with “German cuisine.”
German and English breakfasts are great. Added in edit: I love kippers when it comes to English breakfast. And for German breakfast I love muesli and yogurt. And the sliced sausages. And had many petit dejueuner in France. Always with great coffee,
Tonight we’re going to have our Fajita Chili leftovers—pretty much looking forward to our supper tonight. Chilly to cold here the last 24 hours. Mid 50’s during the day and a low last night of 39*…. MLB NLCS & ALCS games this afternoon and tonight. Adult libations are your choice. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Sending my son to get Dick Mondell burgers. It is a local place that has GREAT burgers. Almost as good as my own. ;^)
Turned on the natural gas furnace for the first time this season as it was 58 F in the house at 11 AM. Always smells like burned dust the first time.
Surprisingly my burger was overcooked. I don't like a crunchy burger. First time I got a substandard burger from them. Usually they are spot on and better than Five Guys.
