What are they doing with the Stutz Bearcat factory?

 

I’m all for preserving historic buildings. But that’s some primo real estate and a factory takes up a lot of space, maybe in Jax it’s ghetto or unattractive for development, but at least that area will have industrial use now.

Sounds like they had long let the building fall into disrepair anyway, so that limits the practical options.

 

It's all shipyards over there. But if recent Jax trends hold they'll tear it down and turn it into a self storage or a car wash....

 

Ha. That isn’t just a Jax trend. So much recent commercial construction around here has been self storage (is everyone a hoarder?), car washes, and I’d throw in auto parts stores.

 

Storage units are mind blowing to me, unless you're running a business or need it for short term storage for moving. But so many of them are just people that own so much shit they refuse to get rid of. They'd rather pay $100 a month to hoard. I assume this doesn't happen in most countries

 

Most countries probably dont have TV shows about opening unclaimed storage units either

 

So like, what do they do for entertainment?

It's crazy. We have had a unit for the last 14 months while we build our house. It started at $160 a month and now is over $200 a month.

Now I wonder what the ground it's sitting on is like? Potential superfund?
Old factories and the soil they sit on tend to be pretty damn nasty.
Back in the day they tended to pour oil, chemicals and hydraulic fluid right into the ground or the nearest water source.

I was born in Jax but moved to Tampa area when very young. (Then back to Jax for 3rd and 4th grade) Then back to Tampa again lol....Lots of family visits over the years but havent lived their since.

I always thought owning a storage facility seems pretty sweet. The little I've looked into it, it appears to be lucrative, low capital investment (for real estate), low maintenance, few employees, etc. Problem is finding a spot where demand isn't already met. Plus you'd have to be an a-hole and deal with a lot of sob stories.

 

Could be. How long has it been since the site was actually used for anything? I assume there is a reason it’s just sitting there rotting.
