That might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Good heavens that cop needs to have a psych eval and then get let for being a doosh. I don’t even blame the other cops, they didn’t know the back story and listened to their fellow officer. But he turned a simple traffic stop into a multi arrest scenario over nothing.
in 2018 there were around 63 million police interactions in the US, roughly 170k a day. If one in hundred thousand went bad, you could find roughly 12 of these a week. And that would be remarkably good work by the police overall, it’s probably several multiples of that minimum happening a week. No one is defending these idiots, but show numbers, not anecdotes if you want change. And I say that far more broadly than you.
So many flaws in that logic. Interactions, especially like this one, are not random. They are sought. The absence of affirmative evidence of misconduct is not proof of regularity. It’s not like misconduct doesn’t occur if it is not taped or reported. But whatever the real number is, you are talking about armed agents of the state, authorized to use deadly force in our name, protected by near absolute legal immunity. And unwilling to reform. Unwilling to self report. Systemically and culturally broken. Heck, we don’t even have an official database of police killings. Of killings by state agents. We don’t collect that data. And the official data is self reported and self serving. You are right! It seems completely unfair for a police officer to have to work to find that sweet spot. Just apologize to the officer, raise your hands and that way the power needy cop can get a cleaner round of shots at your vital organs. Oh..and do offer your fast food because the officer must be well fed prior to yelling "shots fired"! Thank goodness you posted these tips. Next tip...women driving alone should always pull off on a terribly lit road whenever seeing flashing blue lights. Do not use your cell phone to call anyone as the officer will be required to pull you out of your car forcibly and do the necessary. He will explain later and for the officer everything will be alright. More tips coming soon.....
There are people who call themselves first amendment auditors. They basically go into public(government) buildings and film what they see. (If interested you can search on YouTube) They basically are looking for stupid cops to over react and they then film the over reaction and post the videos on YouTube. I am not saying they should be doing this but it is perfectly legal. The amount of stupid police departments is amazing. One thing I notice is typically additional cops only listen to the first cop and pay no attention to what the filmer says. I get backing fellow officers but if you know one is an idiot why don’t they not follow the first idiots lead. The way these filmers get paid is they just antagonize cops on power trips until they do something stupid and then they sue.
Oh my personal advice to you is, if you get pulled over say "Screw you Pig", put your car in reverse and back out. Feel free to reach in your glove box as you are backing out.
Just South Florida for example... I wonder if this skews the numbers of complaints on police interactions. Kinda hard to determine police misconduct when people are intimidated when trying to file complaints, police cover for each other (Blue Code of Silence), self investigations, police unions doing whatever they can to keep bad cops employed, and the justice system almost always giving police the benefit of the doubt. I watch these a lot, for some reason. And you are 100% correct. It's absolutely stunning how many cops don't know basic laws. They took an oath to uphold the Constitution, but fail at the very first amendment. That, and getting someone's ID is like crack to them. Way too many lose their ish when people will not give them ID, which isn't required if you aren't breaking any laws.
I also think these so called auditors are trying to provoke bad responses and I wonder how many times cops act appropriately and they don’t release those videos. Having said this if I was young I would have a go pro or the like on me 24 7. Won’t stop me from being arrested or worse but it would make getting real justice possible.
