The areas of Orange county that were the most affected include Orla Vista, Oviedo and anywhere the St Johns is equal or higher than the road. Not sure the entire county needs special treatment when it comes to voting. Maybe the county can figure out how to make sure those people in those areas are affected, and extend help to vote. I agree on the dropbox point. How are were they bad before, but okay now? Just lease some busses, create pickup points, and bus those that can't get to the polls. Problem solved.

Adopting special rules for only certain counties seems like a violation of the equal protection clause. If we want to relax the rules, expand days, add drop boxes, etc. due to Ian's impact that's fine--a good idea, even. But any changes should be state-wide, so we're all playing by the same rules.

DeSantis wouldn't have been "damned" if he had loosened restrictions statewide or in all of the counties hit hard by the hurricane, regardless of their partisan lean. In fact, I'd be complimenting him if he did that. But as usual, DeSantis acted as a partisan ideologue and made a decision to benefit the Republican Party, instead of to help all Floridians regardless of their politics. It's not surprising. I was warned weeks ago (first few days of October) he'd do this. It's completely in keeping with his (lack of) character. Like Donald Trump, he sees power as a means to punish his political enemies and reward his friends.
Calling it a swing and a miss does not make it a swing and a miss. Is it that hard to understand that 3 coastal counties were literally devastated. Orange county had some temporary flooding and power outages equating that to what Lee, Charlotte and Sarasota counties are going through is insulting. It isn't like DeSantis singled out Orange county. Desoto, Highlands, Hardee, Polk, Brevard and Collier counties all Red counties were hit just as hard and in some cases harder than Orange county.
