That's my thought. Fine making it easier for folks to vote, but drop boxes, voting by mail and other means can either be done credibly or they can't.

The areas of Orange county that were the most affected include Orla Vista, Oviedo and anywhere the St Johns is equal or higher than the road. Not sure the entire county needs special treatment when it comes to voting. Maybe the county can figure out how to make sure those people in those areas are affected, and extend help to vote.

I agree on the dropbox point. How are were they bad before, but okay now? Just lease some busses, create pickup points, and bus those that can't get to the polls. Problem solved.

If he were playing the game you Dems are accusing him of how about republican counties Desoto, Highlands, Hardee and Polk? All in the path of Ian before Orange County? Explain how he should have extended the acccess to Orange Co before those Republican Counties.

Do you live in Polk, Osceola or Orange county?
I live in Lake County and drive around Orange and Osceola all the time.
I think you are overstating it for political sympathy. You’re libbie training appears to be complete.

Yes you are 100% correct. 99% of the flooding in Central Florida was temporary and had gone down the very next day.

the beaches (including Pine Island) and the southern part of Iona on the way out to Sanibel are the only places traffic is restricted right now. in those areas there are entire homes missing and others just flooded.

the flooding along the St. Johns is still receding. It lasted much longer than the surge flooding

This central Florida neighborhood remains almost inaccessible from Hurricane Ian flooding | WUSF Public Media

Weeks after Ian, floodwaters are still leaving some Florida communities stranded : NPR

I have no problem with what he did. Is some of it kinda sorta a head scratcher given the attitude towards ballot boxes? Sure, but that doesn't make it wrong in this situation.

This is true. Some didn't crest until a week or two later.

Adopting special rules for only certain counties seems like a violation of the equal protection clause. If we want to relax the rules, expand days, add drop boxes, etc. due to Ian's impact that's fine--a good idea, even. But any changes should be state-wide, so we're all playing by the same rules.

LOL. Gonna have to spew your empty rhetoric at somebody else. My objection is that DeSantis isn't doing MORE for people in need by loosening restrictions in all counties hit hard by the storm, instead of selectively choosing three red counties. Swing and a miss.

That was how it was here in Florence. Some folks went back relieved only to be flooded out days later.

Stupid post. Emblematic of how dishonest even "sane" Republicans are. DeSantis wouldn't have been "damned" if he had loosened restrictions statewide or in all of the counties hit hard by the hurricane, regardless of their partisan lean. In fact, I'd be complimenting him if he did that.

But as usual, DeSantis acted as a partisan ideologue and made a decision to benefit the Republican Party, instead of to help all Floridians regardless of their politics. It's not surprising. I was warned weeks ago (first few days of October) he'd do this. It's completely in keeping with his (lack of) character. Like Donald Trump, he sees power as a means to punish his political enemies and reward his friends.

Calling it a swing and a miss does not make it a swing and a miss. Is it that hard to understand that 3 coastal counties were literally devastated. Orange county had some temporary flooding and power outages equating that to what Lee, Charlotte and Sarasota counties are going through is insulting. It isn't like DeSantis singled out Orange county. Desoto, Highlands, Hardee, Polk, Brevard and Collier counties all Red counties were hit just as hard and in some cases harder than Orange county.

Gator_Lawyer: "DeSantis shouldn't selectively pick a few red counties to help. He should loosen voting restrictions in all counties hit hard."
Gator515151: "How could a civil rights lawyer not want DeSantis to help people?"
Gator_Lawyer: "Swing and a miss. My point is that he should help more people."

Yeah, it was a swing and a miss. You can keep making excuses. DeSantis had an opportunity to show some character and leadership. Instead, he proved yet again that he's an unscrupulous partisan hack.
