So an experienced like bama shouldn’t give up 4 in a row not quite 6 for 6? our defensive woes are attributed to positions. There has been improvement on that side of the ball but the lack of 3rd down success is washing away the improvements
Saban took over top half SEC talent from Shula. Much, much better than what Napier started with. It took a year to weed out the garden and plant some new plants. In year two they were in the SECCG and played us tough for a while. In year three he put his foot so far up Urban’s ass that it made his esophagus hurt. I believe there is a 911 call to back this up. I’m fine with however this season turns out as long as Napier hangs onto and enhances this excellent recruiting class he has. Any defensive players and receivers in the country considering transferring can watch our game film from the last two seasons and know they will have a great opportunity to start here next year.
Bama played on the road against a much more sophisticated Tennessee offense that is hitting on all cylinders so I could see them giving up four straight scores. The talent on both sides of the ball was equivalent. However, after the four straight scores, Alabama forced a fumble, two fourth down stops, an interception, and a fumble return for a touchdown. Our only "bright" spot was the interception that got called back by a roughing the passer penalty. I thought our talent was equivalent to LSU's and should have been able to stop them more than once the entire game.
Do you see them with UT receivers running wild over the top of the defense all day. Better yet how about a single receiver accounting for All the TD receptions where are the adjustments from the acknowledged master? Your thoughts of equal talent is misplaced. LSU has better LBs, DL, Receivers, secondary and they aren’t young. We probably have the edge in OL and RBs, QB might be a draw or a slight edge to LSU. We have an athletic freak who posts highlight worthy plays but can’t play the QB position with consistency and drop the highlight as a bonus. We will be up and down with him at the controls.
This. Yes we replaced the last set of coaches for their recruiting failure. But that does not obviate the responsibility of the current coaching staff to improve the play of those they inherited. You know, coach.
Dexter might be a sophomore but that is due to Covid. he’s been here for 3 years so he’s not a sophomore. .
There isn't enough data points to make any call on Napier and staff. Way too many variables and too little sample size. We'll know a lot more about the direction of the program by year 3 and can make some reasoned critiques then. It seems there are some people that just want to get in on the ground floor of a "fire the DC/HC" movement just to be able to say they saw it early. The only risk to them is a "my bad" if they are later proven wrong.
Please stop with the Saban comparisons at Bama. Napier's resume is not even close to being comparable. Hopefully one day, but certainly not now.
Social media is the end of society. Ahmad Black is right. Give it a second. Our D needs a lot. D Coach? Maybe. Talent? Sure. Depth? Yes. If it looks like this in two years, back to the drawing board. What are the options? Fire everyone now? What happened to giving them some time? Jeesh. SMH. If Nape is half what has been stated then he has a binder full of WTH and will address those. What do you do today? Light up the team? Is he supposed to say we have the worst coaches and defensive players in America. Hey, come play for Florida!
Sorry I don’t subscribe to what happened at Bama early with Saban and what Saban did to translate to Napier, Saban had already won a MNC and had been not only a D1 HBC but an NFL HBC. Then again I’m not all a twitter because we hired a guy that coached under Saban and follows Saban’s magical cookbook. The current coaches did a poor job of keeping some really good defenders wether it was because they didn’t try or didn’t like them who knows but what ever the reason the defense is complete trash the last 3-4 games.
New coaches, same players, similar results. I don't want to make this too complicated but I'd be hesitent to complain about the coaching for a couple of years unless you know for a fact they are incompetent. This is what happen when ADs hop on the coaching carousel every two or three years. No stability, ripe for confusion.
Hard work will only get you so far. I agree with Ahmad here but I just got dont listening to Auburn pod and they are roasting their coach for the same stuff “he’s derail oroented, the kids fight hard… guess what… we don’t care… he’s not doing a single thing that gives the players a schematic advantage”. I’d say this is about 80% talent and the rest is coaching. You HAVE to figure out a way to get better. A little better. What they’re doing is - the coaches are over compensating for the talent decencies and they think they’re helping by running cover 3 zone constantly … but it’s not working. Southern and New Mexico forced more punts vs LSU than we did
Very interesting to read about Ahmad Black. Brings back memories for me. Ahmad Black was a graduate of Lakeland High School, Class of 2007. He was one of six LHS graduates to sign with the Gators. I don’t know if UF ever have 6 signees from one high school before. LHS are the “Dreadnaughts”. Those 6 guys were called the “GatotNaughts” here. Now 2 great guys in that group of 6 to be Gators were 2 good friends of mine! In fact if you look at my photo on my ID, you’ll see 2 guys 2 feet taller than me! Well on my right is Paul Wilson and on my left is Steve Wilks! I Had that picture taken at a Gator Spring Gathering once at the Polk County Gator Club. I’m sure glad I did! Paul Wilson works for a health food company. Paul’s family are members of my same Church for many years. I showed his Mom and Dad this photo once and they liked it! Steve Wilks worked for several years at Wayne Peace’s (another great local Gator) State Farm office (guess where I chose for my auto insurance agency). For a few years Wayne Peace was also HC for the Lakeland Christian High School football team and Wayne had Steve Wilks as his DC. They really did a great job for building a great football tradition at LCS. So that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
Exactly... some people are acting like we have a defense full of 2* star recruits... which is NOT the case.
