You probably haven't noticed but I show up very little during game threads.

It's just unbearable. I'm not into self flaggelation which is what participating in the game day thread has become.

Yes we have noticed a growing number of long-time Gators skipping the Game Threads because they are unenjoyable, at best.

    That's a shame and unacceptable.

You also have to look at the portal. Tennessee didn't recruit Hooker. Also, SOS re-promoted Zook to DC, before Zook took a job in the NFL. Zook (who was the third choice) wasn't hired because of Jeremy Foley's "friendship." Foley knew Zook was an incredible recruiter (look at our mid-90s rosters). Our recruiting fell off in 200 and 2001, and we needed those Jessies and Joes.

Dammit, am I the only one who recalls last year?

We had this defense that was pretty meh (and sometimes much worse). And one of THE reasons is because Elam wasn't transcendent. The reason? Well, nobody told me this in the first person, but it was because he came down with "Clowney-itis", meaning he was coasting because the NFL said he could not be drafted as soon as he was ready. But as a result of the team makeup, this freshman named Marshall was the starter across from Elam for a while. And so, teams challenged that side WAY more than they did against Elam. And he got valuable experience.

This year, teams aren't usually throwing to his side. It is what it is. What I would agree to in any discussion is that he is a LOT better as a "man" defender than he is in zone. Call it growing pains.

Can anyone with a semblance of a brain, and not a "shoulda" reply after a loss, explain to me how you win a football game with one player who is damn good at man on the outside and the rest cannot play that kind of game, at least the entire time?

Do you know what I am waiting for? The post that proclaims that all these hires, Dumbo and Associates including, were merely a move by Saban and Smart to keep Florida football down as much as they can by getting us to hire Bama and UGa insiders.

Raymond is a Bama or UGa insider? REALLY!?!

The defense needs changing at the top. No amount of talent should be wasted on a failed scheme or system.

I read a ton of other boards, but this is the only one I actually post on. On one of those sites I came across a poster, a fan of Louisiana, that said this staffs MO is to get far more talent than the other team, sounds good/great to me, but that they still won games by only one score?

So, this means that throwing more talent at this staff, the defense in particular, might not get us to where we can/should get. I like more with less... not less with more. But I do like getting more talent as well.

We need a complete rethink of the defense which includes the schemes... the practices... the game preparation... film study... workouts... nutrition and even the complete philosophical approach to the defense and the offense as well.

This analytics crap is NOT working. At least it does NOT appear to be working. I have NOT seen any noticeable changes at half time on defense. Our game clock management is a joke. Playing scared is NOT an offense that I want the Gators' coaching staff to employ.

Every single thing we do is one or two steps behind the other teams we've faced in this league. It's like we're playing obsolete football. Easy to beat concepts... I do think it's fixable but our coaches have to make real noticeable changes RIGHT NOW, not at the end of the season.

I said better not great. The Gator D line was almost non existent in many games last year. Last season the Gator D gave up 30 or more points in 5 games. In some of those games the opponents were not powerhouses. This season (at the half way point), the Gator D has only give un 30 or more points in two games. In those two game the opponents have good offenses. Tennessee has scored 30 or more points six times. LSU has scored 30 or more points four times.

When it comes to playing good offensives, you will loose if your players are a step slower, not better in skills, not sharp in playing the game. Yes you can coach a lot of players up. However, the stench from the Mullen era is going to take more than one season to coach up and to recruit up.

Um, have you tried holding your breath until you turn blue? I know it works for my youngest child. Well, they are the youngest since the others tried it and died of hypoxia.

Statistically his defenses were better with one of the same talent. This is the worst 3rd down D in the country. Would you expect some improvement with a “better” coaching staff?

Personally, I just want to be less-crapier than FSU. Is that too much to ask for?

Yes. They've also been learning a different scheme. What I understand is a completely different scheme.

I also remember when Urban Meyer started he had to change-up substantially during the bye week.

I don't like what's happening any more than anyone else. I want to make that clear. However, I'm not giving-up on this team or any of the coaches or this year. Not implying you are either.

This is the very reason why Mullen is NO longer coaching college football... cronyism.

We need a head ball coaching that's more like Kirby Smart, not afraid to get better assistant coaches.

It was once an on going joke that Kirby did less with more and that still might be true. But at least he's won it all... so it paid off for him toe change things up on his coaching staff.

Um, it's okay, I was wrong once. It was when I THOUGHT I was wrong.

Very true, but Mullen had immediate results his first year, with our total offense going from 109th to 42d in one year. Spurrier's improvements on offense in 1990 are legendary.

But our offense was poor in 2005. I think it was because it took Mullen a year to figure out how to best use Chris's strengths. In 2006, our offense improved from 61st to 19th in spite of a much tougher schedule.

Me too. But you know Gator Nation is damned impatient, even though it's been 13 years since we were a serious national title contender (with apologies to 2012 and 2019, both great seasons).[/QUOTE]

So, what you are saying is that there is a thing called a "cigarette jerk"? I recall a line that sounds the same but it isn't quite the same.

On second thought, I guess it IS the same thing. Never mind.

Have you not noticed just how bad our defense has gotten this year? Here's so humor for you. :D;)

I bet they are more afraid of the dance that Dean will make on TV after a 50-yard "stop".
