I agree this years bama D is not up to par however I have more faith in NS getting it fixed with so many titles under his belt than what I'm seeing with our coaches.

While I see what you are saying ... I disagree. We were in a game that was already proving to be high scoring and we would need to match them score for score. And we weren't really turning over the ball a lot. I think it was bad but again hindsight is 20/20 and I have the benefit of sitting in my happy pants on my sofa.

Again, I want to make it clear, I am not calling for anyone's job, but I think that was poor handling of the last two minutes of the first half. I am also willing to see why others disagree

It’s kinda hard to pull it together in six months. Our defense sucks no doubt but I’ll wait to hang myself a little longer.

Sometimes coaches know what they’ve got and have to make decisions based on that. I’d have tried to score and possibly been a little conservative not giving chance to a pick six. I’d guess that would be easier to defend also.

Cool, I like post game analysis. I don't really have the football acumen to do a good job of it myself.

Why? It’s like Dark Helmet rewatching the video in Space Balls to find Lone Star.

I like to rewatch it more objectively since in the heat of the moment, I’m anything but objective.

It’s the last possession before half that’s mind blowing. I get the rebuilding part but that’s in game decision making and should have been better executed.

With Napier the CEO hire Muschamp as the DC and Mullen as the OC.
Know it could never happen but DM is an offensive Savant and Muschamp recruited top defensive players and although we were inept on offense were quite stout on D.
2013 saw our D as good as any. We created so many 3 and outs but looked like we couldn't get out of our own way on offense. That year eventually the D broke when we could never take advantage of the opportunities it gave the O.

The one thing I was just about certain of was that this year with a new coach we would see a team that played inspired and with effort.
Not saying that isn't there but there are key ingredients that are missing which make it appear we are lacking effort.
A good team feeds off of itself especially when all phases are working well.
I think what we see as lack of defensive effort has to do with the offense not doing their job.
The fact that we can't tackle or wrap anyone up and how we play so soft that giving up a 3rd and more than 10 yards is common is also a factor.

The team looks like they don't belong on the field.
It's as though they don't really understand or believe in the system yet.

I want to believe and get the feeling Billy is building something in them that may take some time and that failure and what we see now is part of the process.

I have so many thoughts and don't have the energy to type it all.

I was at the game last night and was dumbfounded watching us give up 6 TD drives in a row. Just knew the offense was going to faulter and with LSU getting the ball in the 3rd quarter saw the writing on the wall.

I'm disappointed too but there is nothing I or any of us can do about it.
We are going to have to trust the Coach and the process.

I so hope it will be worth waiting for as I am getting discouraged.
We haven't a true championship competitor since 2009!!!
    That's unacceptable!

I mean you can go read your own post... But here you go:
"Truth be told the great 2 seasons he had was with Macs guys. Trask, Pitts and Toney were not recruited by Mullen, name some players that really delveloped under mullen, sure there are a few that ended up having decent college careers but nothing significant."

Then why are people bitching about a lack of talent on defense if the recruits will come no matter what?

I see your point about coaches coaching to what we have. Trying to score at that point is the only thing that makes sense to me though. Conservative play calls would have been fine as long as it was in an attempt to score. The way it unfolded is very confusing to me.

Right but I never said he didn’t develop the players. I was discussing recruiting efforts. Don’t put words in my mouth.

Bingo! Now ask why is that? Oh yeah, same players . . . actually even fewer since some starters at a position already thin hit the portal.

Our DC is over his head right now. No adjustments, 6 TDs and a FG on 8 drives, etc. I vaguely remember Napier trying to hire a co-DC to help him out, but no one was willing to come in and share the defense with Toney. So Toney is who we got and the results are what they are.

But we could get a recently fired college head coach to come in as the DC. If we had hired Odom after he was fired from Missouri in 2019, we likely win a NC in 2020. But we stuck with Grantham for 2 more years with the justification that all he needs is more time and talent, and we saw how that turned out.

The thing I find most concerning about our defense is the lack of aggression. We get aggressive and we stop them, while when we sit back they get an easy conversion. If we can’t play zone properly, it is a waste of personnel to drop seven back into a zone while giving the QB all day to wait for a WR to come open against the truck sized holes in our zone defense. Yet we do it over and over expecting a different result than what has occurred over the past seven games.
