1) I’m curious why AR speaks at every press conference after every game? If he has a good game, then ok, but not every game. 2) Is there a ban on Napier being asked challenging questions in the pressers? 3) How long are we going to hear “We’ve got a lot of work to do”, “It’s a work in progress”, etc.? 4) We have 22 commitments and 3 seniors on the team. How many are going to leave early for the NFL? How many are going to go in the portal? 5) What’s the strategy for running up the middle for little or no gain on first down? Do we somehow think other teams are not going to be looking for it? 6) How many years has it been since we’ve had a strong pass rush that puts pressure on the quarterback? They have all the time in the world to find open receivers. 7) Do we blitz anymore?
My pat answers: 1) This is Game 7 of Year 1. It is what it is. And the second, and most salient... 2) Thanks Dumbo.
We don’t blitz anywhere near enough. It keeps our defense on their heels by not playing aggressively.
Are the defensive coaches extracting every possible ounce of production out of our untalented players? We have established our talent is terrible, but are the coaches getting all they absolutely can out of them? If not we need to rethink our defensive philosophy and coaching staff. I personally don’t believe we are and Toney needs to be shown the door.
Very unimpressed with the coaching staff at this point in season. Play calling predictable and boring, game clock management among the worst I've seen and the Defense beyond comment. This game to me was a crossroads game as both teams had first year coaches and are in "rebuilding" mode. I gave the edge to Gators as home team.... Clearly, Kelly outcoached Napier and better prepared his team with a far better game plan. Toney is a disaster in seems even worse than Grantham. 6-6 with luck.
New coaches…..same players…..same defense. What’s the common component? no excuse for only scoring 16 vs UK but when UF puts up 35 vs LSU and 33 vs UT (should have been 35), we should have a D that wins both games. But for years we haven’t.
The UAA has stymied this program for years. That’s where the majority of blame falls in my opinion. Stricklin has finally opened up the purse strings, but it may be for naught. I’ll hold my judgement on Napier and his plagiarized Saban scheme until mid next year. The one thing I hope Napier learned from Saban is average production from assistant’s isn’t tolerated. Recruiting is on the upswing, let’s hope improvements on both sides of the ball, happen during the remainder of the season.
I wish I couuld say your take is pessimistic, unrealistic, or impatient. FWIW, I would say Kelly's assistants outcoached Napier's, but it's all the same I suppose. It's going to be as slow as his assistants are at training our players into cohesive units. I'm still one that believes it's not quite talent. IMHO our staff is not putting our players in position to win and that is failure of coaching. By necessity we have established talent is beneath our staff in order to maintain faith that with talent all will be well. I hope Napier can part ways and that would only happen if he believes he has to and also has better assistants on his short list I doubt he does at this point and pretty sure we will have the same OC/DC next season. Offensively, if this is Billy ball, it's going to be hard to watch. Love our run game though, just wish it displayed more ways to get our RBs around defenses. Most of us are not aware of military history to understand how brutal, even by WWII standards, was that long winter siege. No food, freezing cold 24/7, inadequate clothing, eating dead horses and perhaps even fellow soldiers. In the end, if you didn't die of sniper fire or exposure you would be marched many hundreds of miles to Moscow to be paraded as a captured invader, then sentenced to hard labor. Horrific. "Thanks Adolf!!"
Uga- a likely loss ATM- unless we improve, another likely loss usce-winnable if we don't screw the pooch vandy- winnable if we don't screw the pooch f$u- at joke shamble, it will be their super bowl. Tossup. Our O can be inconsistent, but can score, the D however has become a liability. Hoping to see signs of improvement with things like fundamentals, discipline, execution, getting some STOPS on D. Go Gators!
I think that’s where most of the fan frustration is coming from. 7 games in and little to no discernible improvement. Some could say regression from last year.
The defense had played two at least mediocre games in a row following the UT game and seemed to be trending up. But the LSU game was an unmitigated disaster on defense. Gave up long pass plays, couldn't cover short, couldn't tackle, couldn't stop the run - really a bad night. It doesn't mean every night is going to be that bad though. The defense has 7 starters that are sophomores. When you have a defense that young you are going to have ups and downs. Obviously this last week was a DOWN, I just wish our fans would stop being being such pansies about it. Some griping is totally fine, but we're already on the need to fire assistant coaches train and that train shouldn't even be on the tracks yet.
I think there is justification for concern. I agree there is no justification to talk about firing anyone at this point.
