Post-Game Discussion: LSU at FLORIDA

This was our 4th straight loss to Lsu. We have given up 35 or more points in all 4 games.

 

I think it’s obvious by now that Toney is a total failure and needs to be sacked in his first season. If we can get Dan Quinn or Geoff Collins Billy needs to do that today.

 

We're just bad again. Don't think we'll ever get back up there in the upper echelon for a while. Maybe some good years every once in a while, spread out, but not consistent

So many posters here defended our talent at the start of the season though. I kept hearing about it even though I argued we had 0 all-SEC players on defense and the only potential on offense was a transfer from Louisiana. Talent level is depleted but, honestly, the defense is even worse than I thought they would be.

 

Dang. That is sobering.

 

OK guys I think I need some football education here.
Im not a coach just a fan. I have several questions about our Gators.
1. The big question for me is it the scheme or the talent that is
causing the defense to play so bad?
2. Why do I not recognize any in game or half time adjustments
on defense? Am I not seeing them or are they just not
happening?
3. Was the cupboard left that bare when Mullen was fired?
4. How bad did the players that left via the portal hurt us?
5. Is Patrick Toney in over his head?
6. Is it poor DB play or lack of a pass rush or just a new system
that makes this defense give up so many easy plays? We seem
to be soft. DB giving too much space?
7. Where the heck is DB Marshall ? I never even here his name
called. Are teams throwing away from him? or is he giving up
completions and I am just not seeing them?
8. How will this type of defense hurt/help us in recruiting?
9. How long do we give Toney to see improvements, 1-3 years and
is he going to get most of the blame for the poor play?
10. How valid is it to blame our bad Defense on Mullen's recruiting?
11. Can we please find a pair of pants that will fit Dez Watson? I am
I am so tired of seeing his ass crack.
12. Are there any back-ups that can give Dexter a breather?
he is really a none factor. When he's in they double team him
by the end of the 1st half he is gassed.
13. Now that we have a good idea of what Billy has to work with,
How long is it going to take to turn this around?
I like what Coach Napier is trying to do with this team and I know he is recruiting better than the previous staff. If we have a top 5-10 class the next 2 cycles and we see little or no improvement in the Defense , will we be in the same position we were in with Mullen and Grantham?,
or will Billy make the change with Toney?
What I believe is these guys got a big dose of SEC type talent and they are trying to adjust to this level of play. Toney is trying to play it safe and not make huge mistakes, so we are playing safe and still giving up the huge play. Toney is reeling, stunned, with these offenses he needs a standing 8 count. I hope once he gets the ammonia sniffer up his nose and wakes up gathers his senses and gets the talent he wants and needs to implement his full scheme then will he get aggressive and we won't be a pushover any more.
I tend to believe this is going to be exactly what Coach Napier said it will be," It will take time and be patient" my last question:
14. Will Gator Nation give Coach Napier the time to make the painful
journey back to the top,? or will they be calling for ANOTHER
coaching change in 1 -3 years?

 

The team didn’t inexplicably fall apart…Mullen failed to restock the recruiting cupboard.

 

Dan Quinn please or is Matteson coaching anywhere?

 

Not me..I will never give up or not cheer for my Gators. I could be 100, but I will still support the Gators..right now everyone is upset and seems like we never get up there again..we will..

 

Adjust Mullen’s recruiting classes for players that actually made it to campus and lasted more than 1 year on the squad and you get a much better picture. He signed quite a few question marks.

 

There are multiple reports that he mailed it in. He was not invested in building the program after the 2020 season.

 

The problem is simple: our offense with a qb that really is athletic, but not a great qb, can’t score more points that our horrendous defense gives up. Our game against the nolies is looking terrible, and let’s not even talk about the dogs. An abacus will be needed to add up the points they score on us….

 

They will score points, but I have no doubt the team will keep it close. Shouldn’t have kept Tenn close, but that is Napier ball - at least for now. Keep it close and give yourself a chance in the 4th quarter.

I would think that Uga will be preparing for the Tennessee game the next 3 weeks.

 

BN is recruiting well, and if that will make a difference then it’s just a matter of time.

Maybe he needs a coaching change or two. The Defense really needs to change.

 

The offense fell off because there was no competent QB ready. EJ never became what he should have despite BJs coaching.

It also fell off because there was no pitts or toney and no one stepped up at wr.

throw Vandy in there. They have 1 or 2 speed guys that will have career days against us.

 

This…our offense is sec average at best. Needed the defense to be a lot better than this to win games this year.
