Of course it's coach speak. It's a coach speaking. The fact that you expect anything else doesn't make sense. Hardly cringe-worthy.
I guess I miss the days of Spurrier. Came out and said we need to coach em better. Said we’re going to figure out who wants to play. Said things like we weren’t very good today. Defense played awful. I miss that. A lot.
There is "playing it scared" and then there is "playing it pragmatic." I think he was being pragmatic. And as I posted on the Missouri game and post-game threads regarding his not sitting AR when his mind was definitely off, he played it in a way that if it worked then he would look "bold" and "convicted" but if it ended up as a loss then it would be looked at as "oblivious" and "naive". We won last week and we lost this week. He was "convicted" last week and he is now "oblivious" this week. The only constant, besides the coaching acumen of Napier and the skill of the players, is our perception of what we want to believe at any moment. And our "beliefs" are not very sound.
I really do think this. I also think that when he said afterwards the USF football team was really good, I thought that was coach speak, too. If you didn't, then you might get "get Billy Napier." That's cool.
Our secret weapon is to have our defenders 12-15 yards deep and dropping back once the ball is snapped on 3rd and 10.
I saw a headline that said "UF good enough to beat any team and bad enough to lose to any team"...pretty much sums it up.
Lots of bs being spoken by people here. This year was always going to be up/down, with lots of opportunity for improvement. Those expecting anything else were/are unrealistic imo.
And yet somehow people called him a “whiner” for that sort of talk. I never quite understood that sentiment.
Surely. It's all correctable, like he said about our third down defense last week when the vaunted Missouri tigers converted 53% on 3rd. Unfortunately he corrected the wrong way so the LSU Tigers had success on 75% of 3rd downs. A 23% swing is impressive but to be honest I was thinking it would be a -23%
Guess it's difficult to be all up beat and at your best when your team laid an egg on their home field
BN has an idiosyncrasy of using the word "right" after his sentences when making a point of emphasis. He used it 7 times in his opening statement.
I know. That was a frustrating game to watch for that defense. I’ve been all about we need talent and everyone should be patient. Hard to see a defense with little improvement and in some ways be worse than last year.
