It's interesting that this is actually a point of contention. It's all good if the fans like it. One more thing, if you don't like it don't do it... simple as that.
Personally-I think it's habit-not sure how rubbing fingers together does a thing for the team-yelling and making noise would be better
Like I said if the fans like it... I remember that in 1996 I went to every single home game and we made sure to let the opposing teams know what time it was in the fourth quarter... when we were way ahead on the score board, in SOS's offensive schemes, we pulled our keys out and shook them at the LSU clowns in the stands as sign to let them know it was time for them to go home... And we won every game that year at home that I went to.

The whole money down stuff is nonsense. I was at a few games earlier this year near some students just standing in front of me rubbing their fingers. Not making noise, not even stomping...just rubbing their fingers. Maybe i'm being an old fogey now, but the last decade of new "traditions" across the college football landscape have been pretty embarrassing. What we need are more cowbells or vuvuzelas:
Anything that raises the noise level instead of standing with your arms raised above your head rubbing your fingers

Where are we statistically on 3rd down? Because it feels like we are the most inept 3rd down defense in history. It’s uncanny. LSU was 8/9 at one point. Last week we were terrible too, giving up several well above 3rd and 10. It’s almost getting to be a joke at this point. The D obviously has stunk for several years, so bad D is nothing new. Just seems like it’s even more about 3rd downs now, unless it’s my imagination.
Instead of rubbing their fingers together perhaps the players would rather see the students all get out their phones and start tapping with their fingers and contributing to the players' NIL sites during the game. That way they would know how much they care and want to play harder. Just a thought.
How about making some more noise. All the money down thing does is look stupid. Turn those hands into a megaphone and get louder
We are close to dead last in the country. We allow over 50% conversion and some of those are 3rd and a mile
We suck at third down... AKA the money down. But, if we lead the nation in third down conversions on defense? I am quite sure you would then like that finger smoothing - cha-ching.
I mostly agree that the complaining about this stuff is just old codgers lamenting kids these days. That said, on this one I agree. The money down thing sucks and should be abolished.
