It’s difficult to find an assistant coach who is both great at coaching and great at recruiting. We have recruiters.
With the sheer size of our staff, that should not be an issue. Of course everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but every SEC school plays the same game we do. Alabama is a different beast because they've been so dominant for so long, but it's not like we're losing to Bama. We're losing to mediocre conference opponents.
Game 7, and I don't see any improvement on Defense. Our "stars" aren't showing out. Also miss an offense that spread the ball around. Literally only need to cover 1-2 guys out there.
Yep, I think Napier wants pocket passers with mobility as a bonus for things like bootlegs. I don't think a "running QB" is really his thing, schematically.
Good coaches can improve any player. The lack of improvement was a problem for Grantham and remains a problem with the new crew. I thought we had seen some improvement but this game showed that to be a mirage.
He probably tried to give his buddy an opportunity of a lifetime. Unfortunately that may have been a mistake.
I don’t know that that’s true. Way too early to jump to that conclusion. And I’m not sure that our QB recruiting targets match that statue-esque, pocket passer mostly mold. I’m sure the recruiting stalkers would know. But if it were true… that would be very, very concerning. Any CFB fan with a pulse knows that a designed QB run game is essential to success. To ignore that is to guarantee one’s eventual firing.
I was not thrilled when Napier said he would handle the play-calling. I'm curious as to how many coaches relinquished play-calling duties after taking it upon themself. But I always thought that was a red flag. Can it work? With the right players and recruiting, sure. Will this offense with Napier calling the plays ever be as good as Dan Mullen or Steve Spurrier at their peak? Probably not, but that's not saying much.
Offense is fine. Score 30+ points you should win. Defense is the issue. Definitely need an upgrade in personnel better tackling.
It's all relative. I have to think almost every coach calls some designed QB runs these days just because every young QB seems to have some degree of mobility. I'm saying Napier is more on the "pocket-passing with plus mobility" side than the "running QB" side. I believe I heard that from a Ragin Caguns reporter when Napier was hired.
Why? Because you can't handle the truth. I post my opinion just like everyone else. I graduated from both schools and call it like I see it. I don't agree with much of anything you write but I'm not going to hope you get canceled.
