After I graduated from UF I was assigned to Los Angeles Air Force Base and I lived about two miles from “Rick’s Airport Recorders”, which was actually Sound City, Van Nuys, California.
Curious as to why Petty and the Heartbreakers never played at Gator Growl. I know they played the Odome several times, but never Gainesville's biggest stage. Any insight?
That's what struck me when I first heard the Knobs. IMO, Mike is one of the greatest guitar players in all of rock and roll. Tom's pretty solid too. In their heyday, the two of them were probably the best lead guitar duo in the biz.
XM channel 31 is da best. They’re broadcasting live from g’ville today from 3-6 pm or something close to that.
Heard an old interview of Tom on Sirrius channel 31 and he said when Steve Ferrine first played with the Heartbreakers they fell in love with him …… but told Steve for him to be a part of the band, he’d have to @dumb down” his drumming.; his technical skills were to good for the style of music.
never seemed to embrace him until he passed and is now seemingly going out of the way to link (exploit?) him…biggest clout grab was the posthumous honorary doctorate
Yeah it's kinda silly, the fact they didn't do this while he was alive makes me think the dude wasn't even a fan.
