The UF soccer club played a game on the Astroturf of the 70s. Slide tackles gave me rug burns. I also remember the middle of the field being much higher than the sidelines.

Yes midfield, the center, was so much higher than either sideline that you could only see the heads of those standing on the other side. Drainage reasons I'm sure.
