Always fascinating to me that the gun obsessed party somehow thinks they’re better at controlling crime than the left, lol. Clearly the stats show otherwise. Honestly, do Republicans do anything better than Democrats? Not really, but they like to project that they do to their base and they eat it up.

You finally made a good point. The party rife with nerds and self-righteousness. It’s an awful combination for personality, but you guys are masters.
Seriously though, controlling and deterring crime is not in your wheelhouse. You guys release criminals and blame the cops, meanwhile people won’t even touch the subway in NYC any more. Great policy.

What are you talking about? I went to NYC a few months before Covid hit, rode the subway with my family for transportation the entire time without a single problem. It was packed at times. The crash in users coincides the pandemic …

Seems your anecdote was years ago. Fast forward to this year…the mayor said he doesn’t feel safe.

Also, the vast majority of cities have dems running them. Stats can blow your mind.

And national defense, to protect the wealth being created by the citizens.

Government doesn't directly create wealth, but it can produce an environment in which wealth is more likely to be created.

More proof that the liberal policy for deterring crime is failing. I wish it would get cleaned up because it’s sending more and more libbies to Florida.

Now this is an accurate post. Thank you for not twisting words and stats to please the big government crowd.

Created and, just as importantly, held. It's absurd to deny that government isn't an absolutely vital component.

I agree. And if we're looking at it only very directly and literally, I've heard people say, for example, that lawyers don't generate wealth because they just take other peoples' money. But aren't safer products and the enforcement of contracts and property rights things that help people and business create and maintain wealth? What about bankers and stock brokers? Some argue that they are just moving money around and don't actually make anything, but they are facilitating investment, which is a key reason we've seen the growth of wealth over the centuries. One could argue about accountants, too - that they aren't really building anything tangible but rather taking money from clients to move numbers around. All of these create an environment for wealth creation - but not in the same way that manufacturers and contractors do. I do agree that if it's more efficient for the private sector to do something, then government should stay out of it.

Sure it’s important but it still cannot create wealth. But you government lovers need to tamp down the love, I mean the govt is not good at all at what’s it’s supposed to do.
The deficit and debt speaks pretty well to this point. Government has little to no accountability. It makes promises with OUR money and fails miserably.(see deficit again)
It’s why we need to protect business and keep wealth in America. When biz does well…. It’s good for the rich and the poor.

So crime on the subway is up 41% this year? I wonder what could have happened in the last couple years that might contribute to a rapid decline and then rebound in subway use -- that you know -- might relate to those stats on the subway? I bet NYC Chick-Fil-As see near ZERO crime inside them on Sundays ... solid proof that liberal policy for deterring crime is working... am I right?

Try it without the childish insults.

    What's the alternative? No govt?

Can you protect business and wealth without government?

You took my points to an extreme conclusion. I have never argued that we need no govt.
I vote republican because it is closer to my values than what the dems espouse, which is mostly that govt provides the answers to our problems.
Both parties are not good, but one is much closer to my views. And the people I relate to are almost always conservative. It’s interesting how that works.

A solid OP post followed up with 5 pages of off topic evasive posts.

Tilly dragged it into abortion where he wants to oversee breeding in the US - you’ll never tell my family what they can do with their bodies. Pound salt.

QGator wants to dodge the question and simply make up a narrative that’s it’s liberals in red states that are violent which isn’t supported by any data as the counties are just as violent and uneducated as the cities…and as pointed out all the blue states have blue run cities.

Red states do not live in reality. They ignore the data and simply cheer. They are poorly educated, economically poor, get government handouts, are tax takers not tax donors, have substantially worse health, high infant mortality, high smoking rates, high obesity rates, high murder rates.

Red states prove the power of community. They want to act like any group of people working together to improve outcomes is un-American. Therefore they have little community benefits like health safety and education. It’s staring them in the face but they’ll hold onto that rebel flag to their defeat. Again.

    Wow!!!!
This entire conversation is literal vs nuanced.
Does government itself create wealth? In one sense no because it wouldn't exit if it didn't collect the wealth it has from taxes. Would the wealth it collects exit if government didn't invest and help the Entrepeneur to be able to create it and keep it? Well, that is a no.
Same with higher education, does having a degree create wealth, well no, does it give you the opportunity that you may not have had if you didn't have a degree, absolutely. But in itself unless you are researching new ideas at university level then you are not necessarily creating wealth.
This board is full of folks that take every word typed and try to pigeon hold you to such a specific answer when I think most of us try to put our thoughts out and hope to have a discussion. I know for me that several times in reading thread that something stated had been attacked so literally that you just walk away and say why bother.
I joined 2 hot 20 years ago, and instead of about 7-8 regular posters like now, there was 25 or more and conversations were heated but it was an exchange of ideas, not so much now.
Everything is my team or your team

You are arguing different points here.

Either the government creates wealth or it doesn’t. The funding source doesn’t matter. You seem to want to focus on your dissatisfaction that you have to involuntarily pay taxes, which is a different issue entirely. Once you pay your taxes the money is no longer your money. The fact that you don’t like that is irrelevant.

For the most part government is a primarily a funding source and private parties carry out the work.
