Jan. 6 committee hearing to reveal new evidence, look at Trump’s state of mind during riot

"The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot is set to take a broader look Thursday at the plot to overturn former President Donald Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

The committee’s ninth public hearing, set for 1 p.m. ET, could be its last investigative presentation in the ongoing probe. The hearing comes less than four weeks before the Nov. 8 midterm elections.

The panel is investigating the events of Jan. 6, 2021, when a violent mob of Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, where a joint session of Congress had convened to confirm Biden’s electoral victory over Trump. The rioters fought through lines of police officers and entered the building, forcing lawmakers to flee their chambers for safety.

A committee aide said Thursday’s hearing will examine events that took place before, during and after the riot itself, with a particular focus on Trump’s state of mind and his level of involvement with the scheme to challenge the election results, NBC News reported. The nine-member panel will seek to contextualize those plans, while providing new information and witness testimony, the aide said."

Pardon me if I don't hold my breath waiting for trump to appear at a hearing to be held publicly accountable. Rule of law and no man is above the law are quaint thoughts of people who believe in the Constitution despite so much evidence that it doesn't apply uniformly.

edit: I am full of these quaint thoughts. Such a loser.

    Yeah... theater.

The committee is essentially dead in three weeks if the GOP takes the House. So no time.

The committee is dead in January. Gerrymandering all but assures it.

Oh but the gop is chomping at the bit to form new committees as they are in the mindset of "payback".

Absolutely. Only a matter of time before we watch Hunter Biden invoke his right against self-incrimination under the 5th Amendment possibly over one hundred times. Considering that Jim Jordan could become the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee I wouldn't even be surprised to see the Republicans resurrect the issue of Hillary Clinton's emails from the grave or an investigation of the investigators regarding the Mar-a-Lago search.

I don't expect Trump to obey the House's subpoena. Were I also a narcissistic psychopath who believed democratic and other generally accepted societal norms didn't apply to me, I wouldn't either.

The GOP gaining control of the House and holding revenge hearings will be the least of our worries.

My prediction is that By January when the GOP takes control of the House, there will be indictments in the Mar a Lago documents case. The Eleventh Circuit is going to stop the nonsense from Judge Cannon in very short order now that there is an expedited briefing schedule. And the GOP will move on from Trump. It will be about 2024, Hunter Biden and the crises in the southern border.

Don’t they take office on January 1? By then, it will be up to the Justice Department to deal with this mess.

If Trump truly feels that he did nothing wrong and has nothing to hide he would be chomping at the bit to go under oath and set the record straight before the committee. Instead he will dodge and weave, play the victim card and spew his bullshit at rallies. Draw your own conclusions from that.
