Back about 30 years ago before conference calls were a thing Orange County thought it would be a good thing to have a cultural awareness seminar for all its employees. BAD IDEA. Each group consisted of different races, different nationalities and different genders from different departments. I think after the first two or three groups they decided to call it off. They started a small civil war among county employees. It's not good to force these things on employees.
TDS (Transgender Derangement Syndrome) is real. Considering that they represent maybe one percent of the population, the obsession with the treatment of transgender persons among the right has reached the point of absurdity.
Do you think that should apply to the original and primary purpose of the drugs i.e. treatment of precocious puberty? Would it be OK with you if an 8-year old girl develops breasts?
I think you're making stuff up. I haven't seen anyone here post anything about treatment or surgery unless it has to do with minors. I think, at the very least, there are quite a few sensible arguments against hormone treatment and surgery in minors. To dismiss those concerns as "TDS" is shameful and you're a perfect example of why so many people on the left and the right are pushing back when it comes to minors. Your dismissive, brazen attitude about the subject doesn't make me feel any better about you telling me what's good for my child. You should be able to tell parents why they are wrong, without labeling them as being "deranged".
Nobody is telling you what type of treatment would be appropriate for your child. That would be a decision between you, the child if he or she is old enough and the medical professionals treating him or her. The problem is that politicians have decided that it's the role of government to intervene in decisions that should be left to parents and medical professionals. Kind of ironic when conservatives would oppose government health insurance one of their standard mantras was that it would result in the government telling doctors how to practice medicine. They were right, state governments are now inserting themselves in the doctor-patient relationship and one point I was trying to make wasn't just the substance of the issue but rather the obsession with a situation that occurs very infrequently and as I previously pointed out a number of the statutes and regulations both actually enacted and proposed have been written so broadly they do not just apply to surgery but all gender-affirming care including simply counseling.
We have to understand that people are born a certain way. If your kid is not gay, transgender, bi, or whatever, something geared towards those that are, are not going to make them gay, transgender, bi or whatever. The doctors who would prescribe such medicines have to go through other processes with the patient before they can prescribe the medications. I don't like ANY prescription drug commercials, period. So this would fall in there too.
I sincerely have never heard that term. I can assume what it is and think it's best if I don't look it up.
Puberty blockers aren't vitamins. Can't buy them OTC. Neither are they antibiotics, which many doctors prescribe like vitamins for every and any sniffle. Instead, in order for a child to be prescribed puberty blockers, the child must undergo years of counseling, and present himself/herself as the opposite gender from birth also for years. Not days. Not week, nor even months. But years. Puberty blockers are part of accepted treatment for transgender youth. And those receiving treatment, including puberty blockers, are happier, better adjusted, and less likely to try and commit suicide. Now I ask, what business is it of yours to tell medical professionals to stop treating kids when said treatment leads to more productive lives, and less suicide attempts? What business should the government be involved between a child, his/her parents, and his/her doctors?
Sounds like we're using the "certain doctors prescribe it, so it must be good for them!" logic. Doctors misdiagnose and mistreat things all the time. They are not infallible.
The overwhelming majority of psychiatrists believe gender affirming care, including puberty blockers, to be beneficial. And there are peer reviewed, scientific studies to back their opinions. But what do they know? They are just doctors with advanced degrees, years of practice, and multiple peer review studies. Better take the word of some random internet poster who says some doctors once got some things wrong, so maybe they are wrong here too!
Yeah, I don't care what psychologists say. Introducing puberty blockers to 12 or 13 year old kids because they think they might be of a different gender is wrong.
The death of expertise in this country is dangerous. 99%+ of psychiatrists agree that gender affirming care, which includes puberty blockers, with supporting evidence from peer reviewed studies don't mean anything to you. Why? Because your opinion > thousands of experts with advanced degrees and dozens of peer reviewed studies published in respectable medical journals!
