You're correct, and it has been left to the courts many times to EXPAND rights when the majority view was against it, most recently gay marriage a decade ago.

However in this case the court rendered a decision knowing that in MANY states, the rights of the woman to choose would be RESTRICTED, not expanded, which hasn't really happened before.

And that to me is what makes this potentially different.

Different enough to overcome 7% home loans and a 25% declined equities market? Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I posed this on another thread because it probably doesn't belong on this thread. Look for my comments on that thread.

Dems tend to overestimate the short-term effect of Dobbs. It's not going to reverse well-worn trends on the incumbent party underperforming in the midterms or make the economic headwinds not matter.

But at the same time, the reps are underestimating the long-term effects. Just like Roe resulted in a whole generation of single-issue voters and an anti-abortion platform that the Republicans rallied around election after election, we'll see the same thing with Dobbs. It will be a prominent issue in this election, and the next, and the next after that, all the way into the foreseeable future. A sizeable number of people will simply never even consider voting Republican until abortion rights are restored.

That's a pretty sizeable sea-change from the status quo ex ante, where Democrats in many cases simply didn't believe the Republicans, despite their rhetoric, would actually go through with overturning a long-established constitutional right.

I love it. Lets purge these cocktail club Republican clowns. They can go to the political trash heap just like those 2018 ones that thought it would be a good idea to run against Trump. Damn near every one of those House members lost to the Democrat that year trying that nonsense.

I'm curious as to what numbers will it take from many of you to admit the country is heading in the wrong direction under the current leadership?
If Red gets to 230 house, 52 Senate? 240 house, 53 Senate?
At what point does it cause any of you to reflect on your own thinking and think possibly you might need to at least consider other options? Or are you so stuck in your position that no matter what anybody else does you will be the last one down with the ship?
It's just interesting to me and telling as to whether there is any wiggle room with any of you? If not, why are you participating in a political discussion forum, because you have no care for the opinion of the other side. I would not budge on some core conservative values but if only 225 seats are won, and the senate goes over 50 democrat it would definitely give me pause on some of the rights positions.

Stopped being and voting Republican in January 2021. Until and unless Republicans return to normalcy I will be supporting Democracy by voting blue. Even if I’m the last one on board “the sinking ship” I’ll be voting for candidates with integrity that support democracy.

Looking more like this could possibly be a beatdown in the House.

Yeah, may have to. there are no Democrats running in any local elections - that’s how such ass clowns as Madison Cawthorn were elected to represent me.

He was elected over a man of substance and accomplishments. But blind fealty to the “R” got us that Bozo*

    *apologies to Bozo

As bad as inflation is, it is temporary, taking away our rights can be permanent and fatal. If the dems were smart they would make those points and explain what other steps they will take to battle inflation. It is a global issue, we aren't alone. It all goes in cycles, this will too. I'd like to know what the maga republicans plan to do. What is their plan?? Battle non existent problems?

Both sides are saying this. Seriously. If I didn't feel like the republican party was doing down a deep dark hole of Authoritarianism, I might look at the Republican candidates. Locally we have election deniers as well as those preaching the CRT, Drag queens are grooming our kids, burn the books, and stope woke mantras. Our school vouchers are a waste of taxpayer money, just like all the other ways our republican legislature/governor wastes our money. They are not real republicans to me. I don't know where they went.

For president I doubt anyone I would vote for will run. I will not vote for Desantis.

I saw one where it was the opposite. Republicans leading and the sample was 800 adults of voting age.

The economy isn’t the issue the Republicans think it is because they offer no alternatives. Roe is the number 1 issue with over half the electorate. Anything can happen but I’d be surprised if the democrats don’t gain in the senate and barely lose the house.

Abortion Grows as a Motivator for Midterm Voters, Particularly for Democrats and in States Where It Has Become Illegal Since the Supreme Court Overturned Roe v. Wade

Even republicans know this. They’ve been moderating their stances and scrubbing their websites.

It’s an opinion and a link to support it. Cool aid would be idiotic support for the big lie.
