Ben Sasse next UF president?

What most people think of when they are thinking of or talking about a university’s student body also has nothing in common with “non traditional, online, professional or grad students.”

So it seems to represent the role fairly well in that respect.

It really remains to be seen. He will probably need to do something to differentiate himself because he will be more scrutinized than others. If he stands up to Desantis he can gain credibility, or otherwise initiates innovative programs, such as expanding / improving online learning, or redesigning student aid loans, etc. If he turns out to be a Desantis lapdog, his reputation will suffer as will the university’s.

Im keeping an open mind. I could see it going either way.

 

What you said makes no sense at all. Just because people are ignorant of the different stakeholders doesn’t absolve them from representing them lol.

What makes him a heavy hitter in fundraising? It’s not a good start if his politics alienate half of UF’s potential donors.

 

Years ago the college president was more of an academic. We don't live in the past. The biggest part of the college president's job these days is to fundraise.

Sasse is well connected, and he has the experience in academia to know better than some of the people that come in from the business world thinking that making money is the priority.

I think Sasse is a great choice so long as he can rein in his political urges and remember that he is representing the university and not running for office.

 

provosts are the academic leaders typically. Hell, many big time uni's have lowly J.D.s as presidents.* That's like anti academic. &, student input....WTH?

they don’t, but it’s usually a requirement for most jobs is to have sufficient experience within that field.

Personal politics hasn’t been an issue in the past because they were personal, none of them were current high profile senators who’s public positions are opposed to some of UF’s stated core values.

Neither part of the resume means he can’t do the job, but this was a choice obviously based on political maneuvering, so let’s stop with acting like a political response from those opposed is completely unwarranted.

As for Warren, ya’ll wouldn’t be as quick to look past the resume, which is why it was unnecessary to begin with. Why create a chasm when it’s not needed? Students not protesting a president is a good thing though.

Make sure you have a fire extinguisher around when you do because if you are stupid enough to burn your degrees in protest of a newly named university leader, who knows how much other damage you could do.

 

If warren was chosen as UF prez, deSantis, hannity and all the R legislators in tally would be screeming till they were hoarse.

Sure. Which would be based on politics. The protesters right now are upset that he’s a Republican, it has zero to do with his “credentials”

Depends on what protesters you are talking about. There are more than a few unhappy with the non Republican issue of academic cred. His weak academic " credentials" didn't get him the job, his politics did. That's a fair point to protest.

 

Not as stupid as hiring a RINO ex senator from Nebraska who loves to tell women what to do with their bodies, hates LGBTQIA, and has absolutely no ties to the UF program or the state of Florida at all. Why not Crist for president since he loves trying to weasel his way into a high position. Just show him right over left and he's all in...

Being a Republican didn’t get him the job but rather being a well connected US Senator with good academic credentials did that can fundraise. His knowledge of the political arena is key for the future of UF

 

A good start? I used to have a bunch of lawyer jokes at the ready. I quit practicing several years ago - Retirement has made me a bit rusty
