Kyler Murray. Getting the most important position in pro sports right may trump solid track record. Maybe

I agree, I think that's the new way of looking at it. Bring in a young coach that's innovative on offense, and draft a QB in the first 3 picks and you're off. Let the two learn together. Let your GM worry about hiring a DC and some older staff members that have been in the league and know the daily stuff.

It's not like there was a lot of options at QB this offseason. Their top trade target is still in Houston and may not ever play again. Darnold was the overall number 3 pick for a reason (not a reason I agree with, but not a controversial pick at the time). One can argue they gave up too quickly on Bridgewater, and I'd agree with that.

As someone mentioned earlier, you kind of have to roll the dice on QB's and hope for the best. Hell, if Fisher never had steve mcnair, you think he would have received those countless opportunities? The guy was a horrible coach...but having a stud like McNair made him seem above average for awhile.

Hell, Saban had an opportunity to draft Aaron Rodgers i think and he passed and signed Ronnie Brown instead. Not to mention Cullpepper instead of Brees. Who knows where the Dolphins would be right now if it wasn't for that blunder.

I don't disagree, and heck, I thought Taggart would do well at FSU. He was a known recruiter and did very well at USF (I can't put much stock in Oregon since he was there only one year).

Let's all be honest here, coaching hires can be somewhat of a crapshoot...you can find warts on pretty much anyone. The greatest college coach of all time had warts before he was hired in the SEC. The greatest NFL coach had warts before getting hired by New England. But I will still say that Florida is one of top 5 jobs in all of college football and with a capable coach, could easily contend for national titles annually. I think Rhule could be that guy, but I get the concerns too.

I have allegiances to all 3 Florida teams for different reasons. My uncles have been season ticket holders for the Jags since day one. Bless their hearts.

NFL and college are very different. Just because you might not be fully in love and committed to one doesn’t mean you couldn’t be committed to the other. He’s shown crazy commitment to Temple and Baylor. Nobody knows the years turning around programs takes off your life. He’s the turnaround king.

No question he turned them around. As for crazy commitment, he bailed on both fairly quickly as well.

You’ve got to consider what turnaround entails. It takes morning, noon, night, and then some. It’s different than 99% of other college jobs. For the time, effort, and results good for him for going to what’s next. Commitment is not always measured by time. I’d rather look at the effort and his efforts equal double the years he was there. Bottom line is he left it way better than what he found it…

Matt Rhule is very well respected and thought of in coaching circles. He’s a big organization and structure guy. With his OL background you know the lines of scrimmage would be a priority. With him you might also get Joe Brady too. I’ve thought all along, keep an eye on LSU with him. Would be a great hire for them, imho.

That's all true. It's also true he knew what he was getting into every time, and it's also true he bailed fairly early in his tenures. Doesn't make him a bad guy, doesn't mean he didn't do a great job, doesn't mean anything other than he hasn't stuck around for the long haul

Saban, Rhule and Spurrier unsuccessful in the NFL, as they did not have a QB. QB league. In college, you can outwork and recruit a kid, but NFL requires you to lose almost every game to be able to draft a difference making QB. Even then, you go through growing pains like Peyton did starting out or Trevor is doing now. Saban went with Culpepper rather than taking Drew Brees due to a Doctor’s evaluation. Otherwise, Saban may still be a NFL coach

40 million dollar buyout from the Panthers. He can sit back and wait for A&M to dump Jimbo. He has strong ties in Texas from his Baylor days.

Adding to this, Baylor and TxA&M are an hour and 1/2 apart. They recruit the same schools. Will be easy to pick right back up.

One thing to look at is he is a NE guy. Born NY, graduated Penn St. If Babers gets another job after doing well this year at Syracuse, it's a chance to go home and wait for Penn St to open up.
