I know technically he is the only finalist, but that is due to the public reporting requirements which require only the “finalists” be publicly noted. I suspect that e committee vetted the candidates, narrowed the candidates, and had their second and third interviews, etc., until they were convinced they had the right candidate.

Can you or anyone for that matter, explain the reason or benefit to keeping this secret? I mean, I can't imagine why the change. Maybe there is a good reason, I can't think of one.

Ivy teaching experience? Where? I haven’t seen that listed on any resume. UT Austin is the only school I saw as a professor.

Yes THE University of Florida President position is more prestigious than being a U.S. Senator. We are elite.

I’ve read the purpose is to ensure candidates that their interest will remain confidential, something critical to individuals who don’t what their current employer/constituents to know they’re looking around. So, a current University President of a prestigious university can be contacted, and interviewed, confidentially, without any publicity. Without that assurance, many high-end prospects would decline an interview and interest at inception, thus substantially narrowing the pool of applicants.

Sasse has 5 college degrees, including two Masters and a PhD from Yale. Also has a MS from St, John’s. While a graduate student at Yale, Sasse taught classes at Yale. Sasse also studied abroad and attended Oxford where he also played sports Of course his undergrad was from Harvard where he was on the wrestling team

Extremely well rounded and credentialed candidate with a love of sports. Senate experience simply provides connections and an understanding of political process.

My concern is his experience managing an enterprise the size of UF. He was president of a private college with fewer students than most UF Colleges, and probably not much bigger than some UF departments. Did he also have to deal with a faculty union? As a Senator he managed a relatively small staff. Has he managed any workforce the size and complexity of UF? Not saying he does not have the capacity, but does he have it starting in January?

I don't know, do you think your employer would be fine with you being publicly identified as candidate for another job?

Agreed. But...what we need now is someone who can bring in some real money. When you have the big Universities with 30+ times our endowment we have a long ways to go. Big money requires big connections, and the personalities to court those folks affectively. If this guy was a wuss I'm not sure he'd be on the short list. I'm sure he has the personality and has developed the skillsets and required business acumen to head this university in the right direction...onward!

Surprisingly, the University has done a decent job over the years. In the last twenty/thirty years UF has gone from an afterthought to a major ranked public research institution. Spending the money for new buildings, more highly ranked professors, smaller class sizes has really helped tremendously. Great accomplishments, really.

The next phase will be, perhaps, even more challenging. Here's to Sasse and the Universities success. (A top 20 overall University and a top 3 Public ranking) In a decade. That'd be my hope. Delusional, maybe, but a good goal nonetheless.;)

    Go University of Florida!:)

Marshall Criser ran a law firm before becoming UF President. The guy in Tally, TK, was a State Politician, that got FSU perks from his friends in legislature to rebuild FSU campus. If you look at FSU dorms, every dorm design has 2 rooms connected to a bathroom (Jack and Jill design). All come with free fridges. They also have free student parking and more plentiful spaces. Perks that come from hiring a professional lobbyist

It’s embarrassing now what is going on outside of Emerson alumni hall. The students are literally fighting to get in and ruin his open forum where he is answering questions from students. They won’t even listen to what he has to say. Pathetic. Listen for yourself.

I’m going to give him a chance. I hope he’s successful and represents the university well! That’s all I can hope for.

I don't like Ben Sasse, the guy was a swamp creature and would bring all that political baggage. We can do better.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. Describes himself as a sports snd football addict. Son of a football coach. Did a morning run through campus today. Students simply like to protest. The part I don’t like is that they attempt to silence those with differing opinions instead of debating the issues in an intellectual fashion
