Agree completely. The only response I want to see to third down is fourth down.

Ok cool we are pretty much in agreement. So we missed on some recruiting. Let’s ignore that. Whatever our talent level is great, good, sun-par whatever—the bottom line with who we have if we had an elite DC (which UF should always be able to have) all 3 of these plays are stopped and at worst they make 1.

What Napier did when he brought his DC from LA is similar to let’s say a CEO being promoted from being the CEO of Joe’s Deli and bringing his Joe’s Deli CFO when he gets hired to be the CEO of Apple. Just because that person was the CFO of Joe’s Deli does not make him qualified to have same position at Apple.

yes, the first stat, as used by Napier, was focused on conversion of 3rd and long plays. Suggested that offenses convert 21 percent on these plays and UF needs to correct that. As you know, Missouri converted on many of these during the game.

The 73 percent passing percentage was on all Missouri pass attempts, which is of course extremely poor as well

By that same logic, CBN is under qualified for his job too? And, really, no one would get a promotion, ever....unless it's baby steps?

In aall seriousness, I agree on the overall point: It appears we don't have an elite DC. For the sake of SOME optimism, I am going to assume our DC thinks our D personnel is far worse than us fans think, and he's thus playing extra conservative.

Again, this is against 3 teams that are not good at all and we are 125. Our talent level on D should not have results like that. When you coach, play a bend but don't break D we will be close to the bottom as we are. Keep in mind, our DC coaches the safeties. 125th is for teams like Akron or Eastern Idaho not UF. If I'm the DC I'm embarrassed by this.

He played a lot I think.

I really didn't understand why we gave the Mizzou QB time to throw by rushing three. Our D-line was crushing their O-line and causing huge problems for their QB. Rushing three-which I think is exactly what we did on all three of those huge Mizzou 3rd down conversions--was straight up crazy.

No one of the press corp seems to bring that up, they/he loves to focus on the few long third down conversions but we were dying by mini cuts all game long. We are 125th in stoping third downs, that is unacceptable. Yet, it's the 3 or 4 long conversions that draws attention. Not saying it shouldn't but it's how this D plays week after week. Average qbs would love playing against our D.

Right. They are saying it is the "money down" which in reality should translate into lay your money down on the D giving up yet another first down. Been watching and or playing ball since 1969 and do not remember any game or any team giving up that many impossibly long 3rd downs in one game. On the bright side, I did triple my daily walk distance as the wife banished me from the house for awhile. ;)

If it makes anyone feel any better, we are giving up 1 pt less per game than last year. (26.3 vs 25.3)

Little room for error. Smoke the coach, staff or team and get no access…. Out of work. It’s the new norm. No one wants to bite the hand that feeds. Elephant in the room has to come from elsewhere.

How absurd. Somehow the CEO of Joe's Deli is qualified to be the CEO of Apple but the CFO that helped him make Joe's Deli so successful is obviously trash. We know this for the same reason we know that a hypothetical "elite DC" wouldn't have given up three third and longs. That reason is simply because the poster has pulled something from his rectum and asserted it as true.

Dexter- will be a high draft pick/1st-2nd round.

Cox- will be drafted, probably rounds 4-7 but will be drafted

Princely- Boone- chances are very good 1 of the 2 will be drafted.

    Miller- will definitely be drafted

    Marshall-Another high draft pick-easily 1st-2nd round.

    Dean-4th-6th rd pick

Torrence- projects as 5th-7th rd pick

Jaydon Hill- scouts like him and say best football is ahead of him. Will be drafted in later rounds.

Shemar/Scooby- both have great shots of playing on Sunday with Shemar likely being drafted pretty high. Yes it’s 2 years out but you can’t see the talent. Add 15-20 pounds to that talent.

    McClellan-Like Shemar

My point is that there is plenty of Talent on this defense.

What Shemar does in the league in 6 years has nothing to do with our 2022 defense.

I love the freshman! But they are not NFl’rs TODAY. They are freshman.

Dexter, Cox and Miller will get some all conference love, as I've mentioned on other posts, but that's about it this year.

The young guys are showing tons of promise, and Im really excited about their play - but they are not all conference this year.

We have way too many gaps on D to be great this year.

    3rd an Grantham,

Now it is The “Scared Money Defense, 3 down linemen and a deep zone”.

In having played football, I have always thought that the only time I would ever see this defense called, would only be called at the end of a game when the opponent’s only last hope was a deep pass for a miracle. Some DC’s see this as the only defense to stop passing attacks, I won’t name names.

This defense screams, we won’t blitz and play aggressive and our dbs will be twenty to twenty five yards downfield. Remember we just want to keep the ball in front of us. Now if you score on us, that’s not right! This defense is making us an embarrassment in D1 football, let alone the SEC foes are now saying, I hope they keep their new coaches.

Here comes LSU, will we make them look like they righted their offense and help them have a decent season, or will we play with Scared Money!
