It's an issue and one that we need to deal with. But the right-wingers don't actually want to deal with it. They'd rather use it for political stunts. DeSantis is paying for Venezuelans to be flown to Martha's Vineyard when Florida has a huge need for the kind of labor immigrants would provide, more so than ever now with the rebuilding after Ian.

They still do NOT want these illegals roaming their streets. Have you been paying attention to the congressional races in the historically Democrat border towns? They're electing Pubs to stop the illegal invasion. And yes, these towns are made up of mostly Latinos Americans in south Texas.

As usual, Rick, you're wrong. Veronica Escobar, a Democrat, represents El Paso. She won her election in 2020 by nearly 30%. El Paso also isn't in South Texas. It's in West Texas.

Immigrants must fell like me at the bar. They say you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.

As usual, mental gymnastics and talking in circles by Democrats.

"Those mean Republicans aren't asking Martha's Vineyard if they want more immigrants."

So they don't want them? Apart from etiquette or manners, this formality shouldn't really matter unless they really don't want them. And if they really don't want them, they've been lying about being a safe haven for them.

"Those mean Republicans aren't sending the immigrants where they want to go."

So let me get this straight. When Martha's Vineyard (or any liberal city) ships out immigrants, each and every one of them want to leave? There is no nudging out the door, there?

Can Republicans handle this better? Definitely. It seems like they're giving Democrats too much fodder to whine about in how they're handling this. Are they exposing a huge hypocrisy in dramatic fashion? Absolutely. And that's the real story here.

What a sad, pathetic post. The only "hypocrisy" they exposed is from the fake Christians who claim to follow the teachings of Jesus but also celebrate hateful, cruel stunts like DeSantis's.

Pot calling the kettle black. It takes serious dishonesty to try and compare Ron DeSantis's cruel stunt to migrants traveling from border communities to other parts of the country.

DeSantis's people lied to the asylum seekers about where they were going and the benefits available to them when they got there. Then, they dropped them on a small island with no advance notice to anybody and left them with nobody to help them.

The fact that the people on the island were able to band together and find them shelter, food, other necessities, and legal help only speaks to the character they possess---character DeSantis completely lacks.

Conversely, it is completely normal for asylum seekers to enter the country at a port of entry, go through the required processing and interviews, spend a small amount of time staying in a shelter in the area, and then leave for another part of the country where they have loved ones or can find work. It has worked that way for years and is not remotely comparable to what DeSantis did.

I remember during the Trump era when we had the surge of asylum seekers seeing a bunch of them downtown for a brief period of time. They weren't hurting anybody. They weren't bothering us. And the vast majority of them weren't planning on staying. But as usual, we have a bunch of people bloviating about things they don't understand because they're desperately trying to prove that "the left" is as hateful towards immigrants as they are.

I can tell you this, since you seem to assume otherwise, people weren't trying to make the asylum seekers who wanted to stay in El Paso leave. Those who had family or friends in the area weren't being pushed out the door. The ones leaving were going because they wanted to settle somewhere else in the country, often because they had friends and/or family elsewhere willing to help them.

We don't "hate" immigrants. We recognize that there is a problem at the border. Certain cities proclaiming that they will not enforce federal immigration law and on the contrary, be a safe haven for illegal immigrants exacerbates the border problem. So if we're going to have this situation, Republicans like DeSantis and Abbott simply said at least make these cities reap the consequences of their own words and their own policy.

The fact is that immigration has its pros and cons. The more uncontrolled it is, the more those cons rear their ugly head. It is not fair for border cities or immigration hubs to be forced the burdens of immigration because of the choices of these other cities. DeSantis and Abbott addressed that... imperfectly, could certainly clean up the process a bit, but they addressed that. And THAT is a good thing. Call it cruel all you want, these people endured some of the worst conditions to get to America, the trip to Martha's Vineyard was a damned vacation compared to what they had to endure. Hell, a trip to Martha's Vineyard is a vacation for America's elitest of elites.

The immigrants you're using as pawns in this attempt to make those cities "reap the consequences" are people. They're not props. They're men, women, and children. They're victims of communism/socialism. Harming them to stick it to "the libs" is wrong. So if you don't hate them, you should stop making excuses for the cruelty.

A "good thing" would have been finding people who wanted to go to Martha's Vineyard and paying for their trip. That's not what happened here. How much time have you spent living in a border community? Don't try to justify cruelty by acting as if you're doing it on behalf of border communities. If it was really about helping border communities and not being cruel to the asylum seekers, DeSantis could have done what El Paso has been doing:
El Paso mayor says city’s goal is to help bus migrants to their destinations, treat them like human beings

Yet again, what a pathetic thing to say. "These people endured terrible conditions to get here, so DeSantis treating them poorly really isn't that big of a deal." (Paraphrasing.) It wasn't a vacation. It wasn't a kindness.

How do I know? Because DeSantis's people had to lie to these men, women, and children about their destination and the benefits available to them when they got there in order to get them to go. Go sell this BS to somebody stupid enough or hateful enough to believe it.

Come on. You can't compare DeSantis' political stunt with any kind of valid attempt to help relocate immigrants.

Yes, because Democrats never use immigrants as political props. Nope, AOC never had a photo op at the border, guys. Spare me the sanctimony, gator_lawyer.

It's about helping border communities and making liberal cities reap the consequences of their own words and policy. Saying that this is about being cruel to asylum seekers is about as disingenuous as the argument that men oppose abortion because they hate women.

"Treating them poorly." He sent them on free air-conditioned flights to Martha's Vineyard. You keep calling this cruel. I think you're overreacting just a bit. But hey, if it's cruel to send these people to Martha's Vineyard, I think it's cruel for Martha's Vineyard to ship them out. I think they should put their money where their mouth is and house these people long-term. A good place to start would be with the Obamas.

Anybody who buys that every policy position from the other side is driven by hatred towards some group, and not some rational reason, is a gullible political idiot who has bought what a bunch of partisan hacks have sold them.

Why do you want to punish sanctuary cities for policies that keep their residents safer? The Constitution is clear that local and state LEOs have zero responsibility in enforcing law that clearly falls under Federal jurisdiction, such as immigration status. If state and local LEOs find they serve their respective communities better by ignoring Federal law, which results in a safer place to live, why punish them for a logical, and beneficial decision?

And most, if not all of these cities would welcome immigrants as long as there is proper notice, and the immigrants fully understand what awaits them when they arrive. Before R's started their political stunt of transporting undocumented asylum seekers, most spent a few days at a shelter on the border, before being released on their own. Many have family and friends and paid their own way to relocate across the country. If there are migrants who wish to go to New England, for example, and others want to pay their way, again, give proper notice to the receiving city.

But that's not what happened with the DeSantis stunt. Instead, he lured the immigrants under false pretenses. Lied to them about what awaited them when they got to Martha's Vineyard. Didn't notify anyone in Mass these migrants were coming, and after dropping them off, just left. This is far worse than using a few immigrants for a photo op. This is far more cruel.
