Our players play zone like they play dodge ball tryna not get hit. I think they are too much in their heads and not reacting to the offensive players. If you listen to Jaydon Hill, he knew where the ball was going on that pick 6 based on film study. Some of our other players need to have better awareness out there.

This. Athletic talent doesn't necessarily translate to a good football player. LB and def secondary require quick reading and reacting to the routes/play. A player that is slow to react or takes a step in the wrong direction will get smoked by a lesser talented player.

That’s exactly the problem. Is not athletics ability but lack of playing as a unit and always being headed I the right direction. Zac Thomas was to little , too slow but always headed in the right direction much like Miller. You don’t always have to be the most athletic to be good, just know where to go and what to do. We have a handful of guys making mistakes regularly.

We had 8 dBs on 3rd and 22. The guy on the receiver was 4 yards away. All he had to do was corral him for an 8 yard gain. Angles, tackling, eating space are all a joke now. These guys are simply failing so we have to:
    - switch to man/bring pressure (adjust scheme)
    - switch personnel

I think most of our failures are due to horrendous previous coaching (technique), but at some point our current coaches have to mix in new approaches.

This is it. Our football IQ has suffered from poor recruiting. For quite awhile now. There is a difference between 4 star players at top 5 schools and 4 star players at other schools. It's in the helmet.

NC State faced a 3rd and 40 last night. I wonder how our D would have responded to THAT. Insurmountable?

Woeful tackling by the secondary. Too much space allowed for receivers! My wife had to cover her ears and I'm an 84 year old man.

    In my head--- UF
    What?

Talent is THE ingredient for a good football player.

Name 3 untalented football players who are ‘good’

"Talent" depends on how you define it. Physical ability alone is not talent. I think that's the point he was trying to make.

I was there saw it and was frustrated..and btw..hate the announcer every time the opponent has a 3rd down..announcing in a long drawn out "3rd down....." not what is said..but how..and then many fans stand up rubbing fingers together..my mission is to get UF to come up with something different..seems like a left over from macelwain/ Mullen era..didn't work then not working any "magic " now

Ingredient? Yes, there is a base level of athleticism needed for each each position to play at a collegiate level, but talent is merely the perceived potential to perform well on the field. It is subjective, but understand it is still a guess as to if the player can execute on the field of play.

My point is, just because a player has the physical metrics, i.e. run fast, big strong, does not mean they will ever realize the potential as a football player. And no, it is not all coaching. Coaches can only teach the right techniques and put the players in a position to excel. It is up to the individual to actually execute. Do you think the DC called anything different on the pick six? No, the difference was the player decision in the moment.

So, when you say "untalented", I really don't know what you mean. There are plenty of examples of people I think maximized their play when matched to their physical gifts, but again, that would be totally theoretical.

At some point this madness has to stop! Right! right?

I'll wait to see a film breakdown, but to my naive slightly drunken eyes it did look like we tried several different approaches including rush 3 drop everyone else into coverage... nope still wide open ffs

Very true! Cancer isn’t cured overnight. It takes time. Our defensive players have had four prior years of no leadership, no walking of the walk, and low expectations.
