UCLA would have had to bat 1000 in the portal or the services are off by a mile, unless it’s that Kelly and his staff are doing a really darned good job, finally. I don’t know but will pay attention to their games going forward.
Most of our miscues involve the safety position. Blown coverages, late to cover, no covering at all, missed tackles. …. Toney is the Safety coach. Need better play next year. Watching Safety play in other games and Safeties are in position to make big plays much more often
Who said Mizzou is good? (Hint: nobody) So much suffering from today's win. I'm quite happy w it, esp. given some of the outcomes against this program in recent memory.
I will say the effort is there or seems to be. It is the coaching imo. New staff. New league. Maybe a bit over their skis. Hope they figure it out soon. The team played with grit today but the scheme seems to betray them at times. Miscues shouldn’t be happening at this rate. Those guilty should get some sideline coaching for a few series.
46 is wildly light - that won’t happen again. it was mainly because Mizz slows down the game a lot, then had slow, long, methodical drives. they ate up the clock. We did appear to play a tad slower on O. Maybe our coaches wanted to slow things down as well
I think between the pick 6 and the opportunistic ST in the first half we just kept giving the ball back to them at a quicker rate than normal. The # of plays & time of possession is a bit misleading in this game.
Yea, say what you will, but Mizzou dominated us on both lines of scrimmage last year. This was a good win for us to see the progress.
There is really an evolution happening with this team, particularly with AR as well. Every game is a new experience. We won. We'll continue to improve and that's good. e can still eek out a decent season. Re: UCLA...they are on a roll, partly because it's the Pac 12. And, they deserve some credit because they're improved. As mentioned, some upper classmen. Kids flying around too. One thing is for sure this year. Parity rules. A&M almost beat Bamer. crazy games. Sce beats Kentucky. Texas blanks Oklahoma. That Texas QB is bad ass. Good luck Manning. Miller is sick. It's like we're borrowing him from the NFL. Go Gators.
I saw a video of the Gator Players signing the fight song in the locker room... What it showed me is how much they care and how excited they are for the Mizzou win. It also showed me, regardless of the results on the field, the kids care and they are playing their collective asses off. Sometimes it works well. Sometimes it falls a little short, but always, they are the fighting Gators giving their all and improving. Very refreshing! Go Gators.
Every win is a big win!!! Mizzou truly finds ways to shorten the game by going ball control. Not an easy matchup for anyone.
Missouri may not be a great team but they took UGA to the wire last week and us this week. They aren't great but they don't exactly stink on defense.
Schedule. Utah appears to be overrated. The PAC is awful as a whole. Remember what happened to Oregon.
I wouldn't be worried about our scheme at this point. It's obvious we are a work in progress.. We have quite a few veteran players who, although physically gifted, do not fit the needs of the team in being suited for their position. I'm confident in a year or two, when CBN loads up the team, we will be very satisfied with the product, especially on D. The 1st 3rd and long, when cook threw it out in the flat, I believe Perkins took a bad angle, let the receiver past him after the catch, and no support from the safeties came up. All the CB had to do was keep the receiver in front of him instead of committing to the tackle and let the rest of the team catch up. If you watch the replay, when the receiver finally crosses the 1st down marker, you can see our number 0 trailing the play? Support should have come in for the tackle. The scheme was fine on that one. I enjoyed the game, i see baby steps in improvement, especially on the D. None of us know what the future holds, however i think we are worlds better at this point with CBN than we were with Chump or the other clown we hired.
UCLA has all their wins against a weaker-than-usual PAC 12, plus non-conference “juggernauts” Bowling Green and South Alabama. All their games have been at home, except against a Colorado team that is so bad their coach is already fired. Utah is a legitimately good team this year, but they lost their best receiver, TE Brent Kuithe to a torn ACL two weeks ago. You might remember him as the guy who killed us in the Swamp. Without him, Utah is much, much more limited offensively. So let’s not crown Chip Kelly as king of college football (again) just yet. UCLA has 8 home games this year (8!), and they get USCw at home. Most of their remaining opponents suck. Their only tough remaining road game is at Oregon. The Bruins have a multi-year starter at QB, and are top heavy with junior and senior players. Weak schedule + experienced QB + experienced roster + lots of home games = a setup for a good record. So UCLA will have a gaudy record at the end of the season, but it’s going to be fool’s gold. Chip Kelly doesn’t have them “back” yet, at least not long-term. And they will get killed when they finally move to the B1G, just like Nebraska found out.
SIAP... I posted some rather sobering-to-alarming thoughts about how the game progressed and what was Napier's response in the game thread. What I saw, and still believe, is that Napier was, analogy speaking, kicking a mid-game onsides kick rather than playing conventionally. What I mean is that AR's head was not in a good place for whatever reason. Napier should have pulled him after his second-half audition, at least until it showed that Kitna clearly wasn't effective. We will never know. What he did was to set himself up for the "Scott Frost" treatment, meaning you look great if you succeed and look like a fool if you don't. And in this instance, he got across the "frozen" lake on some VERY thin ice. Some may say he was acting on conviction and courage (ie, scared money don't make money) but the other side of the coin is obliviousness or naivety (ie, Mullen-esque). I am still drinking Maalox over the potential outcome. Until further notice, I see a fun-loving Superman playing a sport that isn't always about being happy and peaceful. A bench can and should be a lesson learned. And if he decides to be less "happy desirous" and more "disgusted" in his play (or maybe the play in his offense) because he has been shown the bench, THEN perhaps he will finally get this game we like to watch. So to summarize, I will just say to Napier...damn man, did YOU skate some crazy thin ice. PLEASE don't do that again, for both of our sake.
