Or maybe they’re just full of shit. I tend to think almost no Republican pols believe the extreme anti-abortion view, but when you look at people as far off the “family values” reservation as this they should get zero benefit of the doubt. They are lying to your face.

From a policy perspective, I think the vast majority of the country doesn't want to ban abortion. Most want to draw the line somewhere in the first trimester, with some exceptions after the fact.

But I think there IS a big difference in this country between people who see abortion as an evil that may sometimes be necessary, and people who believe it to be some moral ambiguity, or even something worth celebrating.

Like with most things, everyone is basically cool about THEIR abortion (its always for the right or proper reasons), its how they think about other people's that distinguishes people.

Lol. That's not what I said... and what you said WOULD be a case of hypocrisy.

Basically the path to disagreeing with abortion while having one is saying that you were wrong in having one and it should be one of the biggest regrets of your life. If you hide it, sneer at people who have abortions, then people find out you had one. It looks fake and people will think you're a hypocrite.

Too often, we judge other groups by their worst examples - while judging ourselves by our best intentions.

Without answering the question directly I would say very similar to that of the former president who I might add received the overwhelming support of so called Evangelical Christians.

we really need a hall of fame posts for such clear and succinct thoughts like this. merely giving it a rating does not honor it the way it deserves

the GOP establishment (MAGA or MAGA fearing branch) is using / has used him hoping to capitalize on his name and him being a black man that identifies with Trumpian politics, it is one way to help drain minority votes from the dem candidate

I am humbled G8tr, thank you. I value you as one of the most erudite and intelligent of posters on the board.

I also wish, so very much, that posts like this were not necessary.

For as long as I can remember - many decades - southern conservatives have criticized black men for fathering children out of wedlock, abandoning their children, and not living up to their responsibilities as men. Now we have in Herschel Walker the epitome of that, and these very same people want this man as United States Senator.

I swear if it were Jesus vs Satan, and the latter were the republican, these people would vote for Satan.

If you think that’s an exaggeration, you haven’t been paying attention to the extent of the GOP’s hypocrisy and depravity…….or, worse, just don’t care.

Your post is not an exaggeration. They are not going to vote for a Latino over the greatest college football coach of all time.

Listening to conservative pundits, the mantra now is, any sins of the past are completely excusable and is no basis of concern provided the candidate in question tows the party and evangelical line for proposed and future legislation:

Ralph Reed, this morning on NPR.

UNLESS, of course the candidate is a Democrat or Independent.

    The hypocrisy is literally unbearable.

so he claimed he didn't know this woman but the woman has proven that she is the mother of one of his many children?

Herschel Walker Abortion Accuser Drops Another Bombshell (msn.com)

The woman who said she had an abortion that Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker had paid for in 2009 is also the mother of one of his known children, The Daily Beast reported Wednesday. In an explosive report published by The Daily Beast earlier this week, the anonymous woman said that while she was dating Walker, now an anti-abortion candidate in Georgia, he urged her to have an abortion and then reimbursed her. She provided documents, including an image of a personal check she said he sent to repay her for the abortion.
    ....................
It’s surprising Walker had trouble working out her identity. She’s apparently the mother of one of the children he has publicly acknowledged as his own.

The Daily Beast said the woman had proved she is the mother of one of his children.

She told the news outlet she was “stunned” by his defense. “But I guess it also doesn’t shock me that maybe there are just so many of us that he truly doesn’t remember,” she said. “But then again, if he really forgot about it, that says something, too.”

What is interesting here is that walker, like trump, had multiple affairs with many women. How is that not the big issue? He was having sex out of marriage (while holding a gun to his wife’s head and threatening to kill her). He abandoned his out of wedlock kids! Paying for an abortion may be the height of his taking responsibility. Anyone who accepts his behavior forfeits any claim to desire the election of moral leaders.

Anyone ever notice that Herschel Walker embodies one of the negative stereotypes of Black men likely perpetuated by the same Republicans supporting his candidacy specifically that a major problem in the Black community is that of irresponsible men fathering children out of wedlock with multiple women and compounding the problem by playing little or no role in the lives of the children that they have fathered.
