This team needs a true leader and facilitator at PG, especially one that wants to push the pace

I understand Kyle Lofton left a scrimmage today with a groin injury . . . the extent of which is still unknown.

Here's hoping it's very minor with a quick recovery.

    Update:

"....expected to miss the next 7 to 10 days of preseason practices as he recovers from a minor injury suffered on Saturday morning, a source told Swamp247 on Monday afternoon.

According to the source, Lofton is “already feeling better” and his absence from practices will be mostly out of caution."

Florida guard Kyle Lofton out 7-10 days with minor injury

Write up on Lofton said he played every game and every minute...sure hope the injury bug doesn't catch up to him this year as we have not had good luck with injuries.

I had my agent reach out to Todd Golden, but they haven't called me back yet. Probably figuring out how big of a NIL deal the boosters can get me.

Well, yeah, but if Kyle is clearly the best of the group, that's who we want running the point the majority of the game. Winning starts with the point guard.

We definitely want him to stay healthy, but we have the luxury of having Bonham, Aberdeen, Jones, Lane and Kugel backing him up. That’s a lot of talent.

Jones and Lane are not point guards...I haven't seen the other guys play so I have know idea if they would be quality point guards.

I believe that Jones and Lane can both play the point. What makes you say that they can’t?

Well...from watching them last year they don't exactly have the dribbling skills and I don't see them being the guys to get us in the offensive sets successfully. Jones is a spot up shooter that doesn't drive well and Lane is a two or three that is a defensive specialist and athletic rebounder and his offensive game started to come around. They don't play the point.

If the season started tomorrow, Trey Bonham would start at the point, and Jones would back him up. Trey would be the backup point once Lofton returns. No worries for the season, looking ahead. Trey Bonham can play at this level. We'll need a John Bonham drum track going when he's got the ball.

Now that I think of it, "Immigrant Song" will be perfect for Bonham, Jitoboh, and Czimxzzksxk.

You make good points. I do think that Jones can handle the ball and pass it well enough to play the point if needed. In his sophomore year at Penn State, he averaged 3 assists and 1,5 turnovers per game. I don’t see him as a driver to the basket, but I don’t think he would need that to get minutes at the point. As for Lane, he basically played as a point forward in the second half of last season. I really liked his vision and passing ability. I don’t know how good a ballhandler he would be at the point, but my guess is that he would be okay. I also suspect that his defense would overwhelm opposing point guards.

Lane and Kugel can play point? I don’t think so.

Didn't Lane play a little point in emergency situations last season? Hopefully it will never be needed.

From what I saw of Kugel in high school, he will be the best passer on the team. His court vision is tremendous. What is the basis for your saying that he can’t play the point?
