Not a fan of politicians leading Universities but Sasse is a man of principal. Watch the below video where he flatly lays out Trump and other traitors to our constitution.

This is a done deal - there was only one finalist. Not sure if he will be a good president but bet that:
    - Faculty will freak out b/c he is a conservative politician. They should not - he deserves a chance b/c he is qualified (PhD Yale, undergrad Harvard and taught at U of Texas).
    - The politicians approved this b/c they had to. DeSantis probably loves it b/c it gigs Trump.
    - Hope he continues our education and research rise and does not mire us in side show crap. Let's give him the support he deserves unless he does something that deserves withdrawing support! Go Gators!

I'd like to see how he and Kat Cammack interact in the President's Box during football games. LOL.

This is as silly, and bigoted, as Republicans who crap on all things "Berkeley" or "California", or label all Democrats as communists. I guess the good news is that he will be hated by both Trump loyalists and the angry, liberal people... following the judging a man by their enemies, maybe not so bad.

Again, I personally would have preferred a non-politician exceptional candidate but who, other than those on the committee, knows what candidates applied or how Sasse did in the interviews? Condemning him for being an Ivy league educated Republican is, without more, just a mindless attack.

Edit - somebody on here mentioned Thrasher. That was the nightmare. Some Goober unqualified Florida hack getting the job b/c he is owed favors or bent the knee to DeSantis.

Not all that surprised that a politician was chosen given the state of Fla politics, but can't help but be disappointed. The university has come a long way in a short period of time, would be a shame to regress.

The Ivy League background is interesting I guess and will please some. However, he is really a small town guy from the Midwest who was Prez over a tiny little religious college. That hardly prepares him for a 50K public university. No doubt he will have the trustees/pols on his side, the academics less likely. These political appts rarely go well, hoping to be proved wrong.

DeSantis is not celebrating this pick, and it was not done to appease him. That's from a very high source who was on the selection committee.

Harvard, Yale, and studied at Oxford. Very impressive. Should sufficiently piss off both sides.

    Liberals - “He’s a right wing Republican!”

Conservatives - “He’s a rino who voted to impeach Trump!”

I would bet that DeSantis gave his approval. He checks most if DeSantis’ boxes- anti-gay, pro guns, anti-climate change and fundamentalist. On the other hand, he is also anti-Trump, and is a well-regarded politician who retained his integrity.

My concern is that the guy does not understand or appreciate exactly what makes our University so great. We are a diverse, dynamic, eclectic, high-achieving student body that is mis-placed in the Deep South (We should by all rights border the Mason-Dixon line)

If he runs us like an academically conceived Public University, and shuts his trap on things like gays and minorities and guns, we should be fine. If he integrates his political proclivities, I’d expect a rocky tenure (assuming he allows tenure in the future).

He was president of Midland University, in Nebraska, has a PhD from Yale. He only taught at the college level for a year, but he did a great job for Midland, really turned them around.

This is a HUGE win for DeSantis. He is a hardline Republican, albeit not a MAGA Republican. The only thing which would alarm DeSantis is Sasse’s history of not getting strong-armed to act outside his integrity and belief-system (which was evident by his refusal to cow-tow to Trump over 4 years)

Well I will say his degrees are in subjects that Rs typically hate, philosophy, history, and from those damn Ivies, so maybe u have a point.

He acknowledged Bidens win, but, his senatorial voting record was hardly that of a moderate.
