I actually made cassette recordings of some games called by Otis Boggs. I kept them for years.

 

I can see how that might get confusing.

 

Voice sounds a lot like Tim Brando.

You don't know what old is. My freshman year 1960 I watched Larry Liberatore pass for a 2 point conversion against GA Tech for the victory. The packed house of 45,000 or so went nuts. I have been hooked ever since.

 

I love it. The WORST thing about local/gator media has been their complete lack of transparency. Under the 3 M regimes they were not forthcoming, pumped sunshine and told gator fans they were “too negative” only to come out and go “well we knew things were amiss all along but couldn’t say anything”. And it only addded to Gator fans PTSD and lack of trust. Just call it like you see it. That’s your job. Don’t worry about who’s coming to your golf tourney

 

I like it too. You know SOS would call it as it is. It’s refreshing that he’s not so PC like the rest of the talking heads out there.

 

He would also say “Fumble!” Followed by what felt like 10 minutes of dead air space. Everyone would be gripping the radio shaking it waiting to find out who recovered the ball. Otis Boggs was my early childhood. Loved him.

Otis Boggs was awesome, but Mick carved his own, "OH, my," place in Gator lore!

 

Damn Porschegator! Your older than me! I was a sophomore at Citrus High School that year and attended that game with my grandfather. Jon McBeth was on the receiving end of that pass and I also think that was one of the most thrilling moments in Gator football history.

 

Or Otis Boggs and Ted Covington coming to you from high atop beautiful Florida Field...

Wow, thanks for reminding me of Larry, although I was a young fella back then!

 

I like the new guy. The cornball forced excitement stuff gets old after a few decades. The new guy is sharp and crisp in his delivery and does a good job interacting with Shane - who is also doing just fine. My favorite VOTG will always be Otis Boggs, just like my favorite player will always be Steve Spurrier. I'm old as hell and set in my ways and I'm just fine with that.

Shane talked about this on his podcast. He says he can see the plays before they happen and has his helmet on when making some comments lol.He says he trying but it’s hard not to make comments being an ex player and knowing what’s going to happen.

I go back to the day of Ray Graves, Otis and six or seven wins a year as acceptable. Spent many a night listening to the games. The year we beat the Bear in Tuscaloosa was most memorable. Crowds ran onto the runway at the airport so the Gator plane had to make an extra pass before it could land. Then s huge crowd gathered at 441 and 13th and lit a huge bonfire that burned the traffic light. Traffic was backed up for miles and a tractor trailer carrying quart jars of fruit cocktail was opened and lots of people had fruit cocktail that night. Radio was fun listening. there were only one or two games on TV every Saturday.
