Funny how no one brings this up or anything of the kind during press conferences. Seems same issues show up. Here's a bigger issue, if recruits come to believe our D coaches are not up to par, and believe me teams will tell them this during recruitment, we could lose top recruits. I think most D players want to be aggressive, want the D to be strong because if the D is strong, pro scouts take notice. I'm not sure how many pro scouts pay much attention if a D is bringing up the bottom.

Yep, I remember when we had DBs that could play right in the face of the opposing team's receivers and still play good cover defense, top 20 or better defense. These last two DCs are not playing bump and run coverages...

We need to stop with the 10 yard giveaway coverages on pass plays like 3rd and long, or other passing downs.

We need to bring back the bump and run scheme on defense.

These kids are usually going to take most if not all their free visits. We might lose one or two . . . same as other teams. Although not the right forum, I also understand Florida has silent commitments from "uncommitted" players.

It's not easy but many are content to wait and see . . . who signs and what improvements we see on offense (already seeing some) and defense. Remember, Coach Napier is building back everything. The neglect had been pretty intense.

Yeah, that was overflow from my original statement, that we need to fix the defense. But if you have some secrets (about silent commits) to tell... feel free to PM me. Lol. :D:)

Play a lot of Cover 2. Down linemen rarely stunt, which can create confusion and mistakes by the O lineman. Stunting does not mean actually blitzing. Outside of Miller, linebackers are not scraping off blocks and filling holes. Burney has a difficult time reading the play, and either fails to scrape off a block or he runs himself out of the play.

Not sure of solution, other than playing a lot more cover 1 and depending on DBs to cover.

I’ve said this forever. Go BEAR front!!! We’ve done it against Georgia before and slowed them down. If we don’t we will get run on the next few weeks and possibly lose games we should not be losing. Bear front should create plenty of 3rd and 4 or 3rd and 5 and lends itself to passing downs more often than not at this point.

What the stats don’t show is that it is a lot easier for Davis to have those kind of numbers when you have Jalen Carter lined up next to you on an all-world D line. Watch UGA D last year vs. UF this year. The amount of times Dexter gets double teamed dwarfs Davis. And we have him lining up primarily inside …not his comfort zone. But have to out of necessity. Point being, we don’t have many capable bodies.

    Yes.

Watch the Read and Reaction analysis on the defense. Toney goes zone … missed assignments. Toney goes man … missed assignments. Toney goes multiple … missed assignments.

GNFP analysis … shampoo, rinse, repeat.

Recruiting is the only way out of this. Has short-term amnesia set in when Napier preached patience?

People who are questioning scheme are lazy and are just throwing spaghetti on the wall in a message board.

We better sign at least three 300lbs DTs in this cycle and pick another one from portal.

If I may assist, think "symptom" and not "affliction". What keeps being brought up is still a game of "Is Napier Smarter Than a First Grader". We seem to believe we know what makes the process work and if posters are close to my acumen, I have to believe we are nowhere close.

We are on a journey. And it is going to take time. Dumbo was not up to the task. By a LONG ways. And now, time to clean up the mess and get back on track. It ain't pretty but it IS real.

That’s because he was. Stats don’t tell everything. Davis was a constant double team and he constantly disrupted the offensive flow. Didn’t always make the tackle but was so disruptive. When he clogs up a running lane, re routes a running back, etc he took offense off schedule and made it easy for talented teammates to clean things up. He was constantly disruptive.

I noticed Sunday..one of our players, if he had just stayed in his lane instead of trying to rush out of position could have stopped their runner for no gain

Not until Miller went down. Then Kentucky exploited everything and every offense since has had a field day.

Add more DL and don’t play our usual 3 DL set when the opposing offense has a heavy set. We are playing 3 DL against run heavy formations, and wondering why it is so hard to stop the run.

When the other team is running heavy 2 TE sets, bringing an extra safety down into the box isn’t a very good solution, especially with how our back 7 play. We need more beef on the line to clog the lanes and force runs to the outside.

Agreed, although I think it is much more spinning the pin wheel of football jargon and not fully understanding concepts. Its getting tiring. A 7 loss team with HUGE deficiencies isn't going to turn around in year 1.

I have been impressed with the defensive improvements that don't show in the metrics. Improved tackling, getting lined up on time, agressive play. There are busted coverages by "that guy". "That guy" also seems to flex after giving up a 12 yard run for a first down.

If I were king for a day, I would bench him and go with a younger player even if it meant the occasional screw up. Only way to rid the team of this nonsense.

This is DC calling these plays against a heavy run OL. I get it we don’t have all five star linemen, but we have some very good linemen that can hold their own when not double and triple teamed. This requires more linemen to help up front are we are going to get steamrolled on SEC games, maybe five down linemen, Miller and The freshman Pyburn backing up These guys. Shemar could be either LB position also. More tough guys at the line of scrimmage. Our dbs go one on one, this stops the run, bringing pressure to help stop qb’s having all day to pass. This is common sense. Our DC has to not only recruit but show that he has tried everything to stop offenses scoring every time they have the ball. Even Vandy! Lord if we lose to them, shudder to even think of this. We have to try other fronts mixed in. I agree with your opinion.
