He voted no because Congress didn't cut spending in other areas. I wonder if he will say no to a check from the Fed if Congress passes an Ian package and fails to cut funding in other areas

Desantis did vote for HR 152 which was the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act and provided 17 Billion in emergency funding.

H.R.152 - 113th Congress (2013-2014): Making supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2013, to improve and streamline disaster assistance for Hurricane Sandy, and for other purposes.

I didn't watch the Waffle House clip but don't have a problem with these sorts of photo ops generally. They all do it, and if it helps with morale and bringing additional attention to the help needed, that's fine with me. Politicians get criticized for going or not going - or for going too early or too late.

Having been through multiple hurricanes, the linesmen and first responders have always been very impressive to me, and they came from all over. I recall the linesmen outside my house around dusk after 10 days of no power and wondering if I was going to have to wait yet another day to get power back. Then, the power suddenly came on. I was elated. Those guys worked their butts off.

Thanks for the link to the actual vote. Kind of wild that people will make a claim and post a link that shows their claim to be false. Do they just hope no one notices their lies, or were they deceived by someone else?

If we are going to complain about something it should be that he did it from a Waffle House. At the least he could have done it at Village Inn or Cracker Barrel. Hell, a Denny's would have been better.

I’ll be the judge of that. If I’m going slumming for a budget breakfast, I’m headed to Waffle House. The other places…dennys, Perkins, village inn are not even better food. They might be slightly safer, but food is better at Waffle House for me.

I have to politely disagree here. Waffle House is under-rated by many if anything. Not that his opinion means everything, but Bourdain spoke highly of Waffle House, and I think the respect for Waffle House line cooks is widespread in the food industry. They also rarely close, and it so it's a big deal when they do.

this is what we need in a leader. Everything else is just libbie media spin and hate.
That he respects Waffle House is the whipped cream on top of the chocolate chip waffles.

Meanwhile our POTUS is probably checking his flip phone to see how New Orleans is doing and asking aids if Katrina is going to be as bad as forecast.

    Katrina, are you out there?

I have been wondering about how this might impact the debate about migrants/illegals/undocumented workers. After hurricanes, in particular, we have a lot of contractors (some licensed and some not) using roofing subs and other subs who speak no English. You will see them in all sorts of neighborhoods. I recently met some in my neighbors' yard from Honduras and had to translate because whoever assigned them the job wasn't there. I don't know what percentage of them have work visas versus those who do not, and almost no one cares when it's their house that needs work. They are critical even in normal times. If there were to be an effort to clamp down on them now, it would dramatically slow the recovery process and make it even more expensive. These sorts of tragedies only highlight how vital these folks are to our economy. I suppose you could argue that young American men would be getting these jobs otherwise, but I'm sincerely not convinced they want the jobs or could do them as efficiently.
