Loved watching Kitna take 3 steps back and delivered the ball enroute to a 62 yard TD. That play felt good, start to finish.
The most popular player on the team is the backup QB. Kitnas play is encouraging and will push all QB's to be Better.
Wait, wait, wait. Stop. It was great seeing him get real game reps and he took advantage of it. But EW made Bo Nix look like Bryce Young. In fact, that game made fans forget the game before against Georgia. 28 of 33 completions, 277 yards and 5 TD passes and zero interceptions. I had to go back and look, Bo never had 5 TD passes in any game prior to playing EW.
After his TD pass, I looked at my uncle and said "if he'd been starting all year, we'd be undefeated." We both laughed.
You have a good point but it's not worth debating over at this point, of course. Just gotta keep moving forward. With AR back in stride and watching what Kitna did yesterday I feel like we're in high cotton now though....whoopee!!!
I stand by my comment. While I understand AR has an unusual style and is certainly not a traditional drop back QB, he is far more athletic than Kitna, therefore can allude the rush. Sitting in the pocket and throwing fade routes against Eastern Washington is fine, but Kitna will get eaten alive by SEC defensive coordinators until he demonstrates something more than staring down one reciever and throwing over the top. I'm not knocking the kid, he did fine, but we were not playing Bama or UGA. It was encouraging seeing him perform and I'm happy for him. It also gives the fan base hope he could step up. But Eastern Washington is still Eastern Washington. Oregon hammered those guys 70 - 14. Kitna SHOULD HAVE performed well. And, he did.....
There have been several former Gator QBs who have put up good lines against inferior FCS talent like Eastern Washington that didn't amount to jack squat when they played a few games in the SEC. I'm not saying that's Kitna's fate, but I'm not sure I can get excited over 10 complete passes against Eastern Washington. I would need to see more. Especially after watching AR struggle early on this season. It's too early to pencil in anything for a guy like Kitna.
Vs Eastern Washington… in garbage. I’m glad he’s a decent backup. But don’t suffer from backup QB-itis We’ve done that around here to the tune of Malik Willis, Emory etc
GG44 - I'm 100% with you and my posts support that, but I can't blame our fellow Gators for being happy and excited about the young man, heck I am too! Brings thoughts of Kyle Trask and the old "Throwin Mayoin" to mind. Sometimes magic does happen at the QB position with a new face but not usually. Lets see how he can do against more elite SEC competition.......
Nothing wrong with your take. Close to mine above. I would only add that we HAVE to run the ball effectively to be a key to a win. AR is a component to the running but he should not be THE component like Emory was last year. In a real game against quality competition, he would not be doing layup drills, he would be the orchestrator of the offense. At least he would be the executive secretary to the CEO. I believe he would be capable, just not Trask 2.0...yet.
It's easy to make hot take statements without substance. So, do you have some for instances and explanations for why that's happened?
