That’s the issue. We only see what GNFP sees on game day. We don’t see what goes on in practice and during the week and we don’t know what he grasps mentally.
I agree, on the unknown during the week, film study etc. Is it possible he knows less than some others? Haha
He is more of a strong safety than a free safety. His job is to provide run support and play close to the LOS, while also being better in coverage than a LB. It’s not an easy position to play, but he is out of position way too often.
My point is that if you are not the safe end of things, bad things can and do happen. Unless you have trained the blades of grass to stop a runner, you are it except for a fast DB who is not supposed to be in the play running them down. Cox can be a hero to some extent because he has other layers behind him. A safety, strong or otherwise, has little or none.
