I asked how DeSantis has done with cabinet appointments among minorities.

Alright, here is a.photo from the top of Google.search called "Ron DeSantis and his Cabinet thanking our First Responders for the hard work after the Surfside building tragedy."

Looks like a real rainbow of races and cultures... What am I missing?

Ridiculous that you seem to think democrats are somehow behind this. Of course it was democrats that scratched out the faces! Listen to yourself.

Florida's cabinet is elected, not appointed. And it has no minorities.

I didn't think anybody would actually be willing to address the scratching out of faces. Again if you are going to pull out an old photo and condemn the person in the photo how do you justify hiding everybody else who appear to be enjoying the event? As far as I know this has never been done in similar situations.

Likely because those other people are not public figures. This seems to be more about questioning the choice of one person to have a level of control over that district than just blanket shaming of people who were at that party. And probably leads to less potential for liability as well.

Your kid was 4 or 5. That reflects poorly on you, not him.

The guy in the governor's house has done all sorts of bigoted things. It's no surprise that an ally of his would have a scandal like this. And I'd hope that most native southerners would be able to confidently say there aren't photos floating around of them dressed like (or as) Klansmen. Then again, in terms of demographics, the majority of Southern white men over 60 vote for people like Trump and DeSantis, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

He's probably talking about the quack doctor DeSantis appointed as his surgeon general.

So Mr T masks... Which were a thing... Would be racist to wear in that era when he was a mega star that kids like me loved?

I am not going to search for the post where I blasted the moron for that move, but yes, that idiot should have stepped down. The only difference is that he was elected by the voting public and concealed his past form the public, a public well within their rights to demand accountability for his actions.

Meanwhile, my response was directed at the question as to why DeSantis needed to defend hiimself. Note, no one said DeSantis was personally accountable, but yes, the vetting process used to submit that guys' name to the governor certainly should bare scrutiny and the governor himself should answer for that flawed process. DeSantis should be called to discuss how it will be remedied in the future for the appointment by the governor. An appointment which provides no recourse for demanding accountability by the voting public.

    Some additional context

Thinking a Ku Klux Klan robe and hood was an appropriate costume choice is bad enough. But you’d think Moore would know better. He is the only white person on a board that includes four Black commissioners in a county that is 55 percent Black. Gadsden County is located in the panhandle portion of Florida and is the only majority Black county in the state.

My younger son went trick or treating in blue face and a smurf hat that year and I wore a green wig and painted myself green....So you are saying 3 white guys dressed as Mr T, Popa Smurf and the Incredible Hulk in 1978 was in poor taste? Somewhere I have a picture of the 3 of us.

That's part of what I was trying to get at in my earlier post, perhaps somewhat inartfully.

What was intended to be innocent or even somehow perceived as flattery 50 years ago is cultural appropriation today. And as a society if cultural appropriation is no longer acceptable, fine, so be it, but let's not erase innocent history while doing so. When my daughter was growing up every year some (white) kid in the neighborhood dressed up as Michael Jackson because he was the biggest pop star in the world, and no one thought twice about it.

Having said that, wearing the klansman outfit is like wearing a swastika-there are never any circumstances where that is appropriate. If Al Franken had to resign for a photo feigning to grab a woman's breasts, anyone in a sheet and hood should be erased similarly and more quickly.

A mask is different than blackface. Although, these days I expect it wouldn't be appreciated either.

The problem with blackface isn't cultural appropriation.

While both black face and dressing in KKK garb for a party are both inappropriate, I put the degree of the inappropriateness at a 2 out of 10 for blackface and a 5 or 6 out of 10 for the KKK.

Let's address this terrible photo again......My guess is that this photo was taken years ago probably in Jeffery Moore's college days. I'm thinking it is a fair assumption that it did not come from Moore's personal photo album. Logically the photo has been kept by someone who attended this party for a lot of years. That someone probably kept it because he thought it was funny. Now for years Moore is a public official on both a state & county level. This photo never surfaces. DeSantis appoints Moore to office and all of a sudden the person who has had this photo in his possession because he thinks it was a cool picture all of a sudden decides to release it with faces scratched off????? So once again see if you can follow logic, Somebody had this photo, hates DeSantis did not want others in the photo identified hummm....I think the person from the Tallahassee Democrat who made the photo public might ought to be the person questioned.
