By: Eric Fawcett -- September 25, 2022 If there is a player that would love more than anything to reverse his luck this season, it’s Jason Jitoboh. Starting in high school at Hamilton Heights in Tennessee injuries have plagued the big man resulting in three years at Florida where he has never quite been able to get into a rhythm of a regular shift and weeks in a row with a predictable spot in the rotation. The rest is here: Defense And Rebounding Are Keys To A Bigger Role For Jason Jitoboh | GatorCountry.com
Good summary. JJ is still listed at 300 pounds. I don't know if that's accurate, but isn't that he was listed at last season? He looks to be slimmed down a bit.
285 and then WATCH OUT! Methinks his slimmed down is going to work better on offense than defense. If he is going to be a weakside defender then he is not going to be used properly. Otherwise, he is the basketball Watson: slimmer may mean more conditioning and therefore more stamina, but in the end, you are what your play-making says you are.
Watson isn't playing like he looks. He is better and so his weight, while weighty, isn't a dealbreaker. JJ can be similar on defense in basketball, just not very agile.
Excess weight (i.e., fat) will always be a liability on the defensive end. Stokes was a talented offensive player who was less than worthless on defense. No elevation, no quickness, easy to blow past and get a good look at the hoop against. To make matters worse, Stokes had little situational awareness. When you go way back and look at Dametri Hill, he was even heavier than Stokes. But he understood his role and team defense, so he wasn't too bad on the defensive end. Plus, he had some excellent help, particularly from Andrew DeClerq. Castleton should be at least as good a help defender as AD, but I don't know if we'll get many opportunities to see JJ and CC together. Hope we give it a try early on.
Excited to see what he looks like. He’s a throwback type player. Not a stretch 5, high flying lob pass dunker, or a big guy who will dribble past a defender, but he can be a rim protector, rebounder, and put up points around the bucket.
