Italy’s first female PM and first elected PM since 2008.

Devoutly Christian and pro-family. Also fiery and wags her finger a lot. So Mussolini. But the trains will run on time.

Side note: the EU is beside itself!

Italy’s Far-Right Victory Is a (Small) Win for Putin

I don’t get why the left doesn’t love her. She was pro-lockdown, pro vaccine-pass, she’s a climate crazy and she’s all about the Ukraine gravy train.

So why do you like her? Oh that's right, because she's a fascist!

Before it occurred to anyone to ask, “What is a woman ?”, the entire planet was fascist.

Seems like a lot of countries want to follow the US's lead and give someone like this a chance. We took away his power in 2 years by flipping the House and then kicked him to curb in 4 years. Brazil has their own version who served a term and is now losing the polls by 10%, but is already saying that if he loses the election it's voter fraud and he won't leave office unless he's arrested or killed...

It think it's a misplaced, global pushback against the oligarchy. People see govts that work for the wealthy, growing wealth gaps, etc. And they have no other recourse but to vote for anyone outside the norm and hope they can change things. It's how we got Trump imo. Misplaced attempt at fixing DC

Bolsonaro is indeed Brazil’s Trump. One of the strikes against him is that he ‘mishandled’ the pan-panic. That’s a lie. He didn’t handle anything. Local government governments handled the pan-panic by locking down the states and sowing panic.

They already had their Trump (Berlusconi) to normalize this lady and turn politics deeply cynical. Low turnout for this election.

I like her if only because it has the EU presently unhinged. It fears that she might form an alliance with Hungary and Poland to weaken an already brittle EU.

Because she's a better Catholic than the Pope?

I can see where the left hates her because she’s a better Catholic that the Pope. She’s not married. But neither is the Pope.

Not sure it’s misplaced. Some leaders may seem like Trump and resemble some of those ideals, but doesn’t mean they’ll behave exactly as did.

In some ways she’s Trumper than Trump. For one thing, I literally cannot imagine a political party which motto is “God, Country and Family” rising to power in the US.

I think you're generally right, but I think cultural anxiety is at least as big of a factor as economic anxiety/financial resentment - at least here.

I suspect you’re right. The Christian faith wields little influence in America today. But lots of Americans fear the husk of something like traditional America withering away and want to hold onto that.

From what I've read, people are blowing this lady's reputation out of proportion. I keep seeing her labelled as 'far right' - she seems no such thing. 'Centre right', perhaps. It's the others she's in a coalition with that have harder views (mostly around immigration) than she does.

I'm not a fan of partisan politics, defining ourselves solely by where we sit on a political platform. But this is getting out of hand - labelling everyone as an extreme or a 'far-x' is getting loathsome. We need some sensible politics again and it's ok to disagree with each other on policy!
