Geoff Collins fired by Georgia Tech today - finished with a 10-28 record. He’ll likely land a good DC job next year. Georgia Tech fires Geoff Collins after 1-3 start to fourth season with Yellow Jackets AD reportedly under fire
The salary of being a head coach for several years plus a buyout payment can equal a lot of years as an assistant coach.
Coach Prime would be a fool to use his chip here, he can get a much bigger gig, imho. Georgia Tech coaching candidates: Deion Sanders, Todd Monken lead options to replace Geoff Collins
Can't believe Tech would even entertain an academic failure like Sanders. I know it's football but still, academic rep still matters for some schools.
I wonder if they could get Jeff Monken from Army. I'm not sure what service academy pays, but he would bring back the option and win games.
C’Mon man! The on-line fast track wink-wink BA program at Talladega College is very reputable. Aflac!
He needs to learn more about recruiting... and that importance. But he seems to be a good position coach. I don't remember his DB/Safeties getting burned that often.
A little off topic, but why did Georgia Tech ever leave the SEC? They were a founding member correct?..... Thanks to anyone who answers. GO GATORS!!!!
He'll land on his feet. I figured he would likely get fired, just didn't see it happening this early in the season. Tech is going to be a difficult school to find any measure of sustained success, and unless you can find a homegrown committed guy (ex player, etc), any successful coach is going to use this as a steppingstone to another program. I noticed Monken's name mentioned, I'm really curious if the Tech job would be a big enough draw. With head coach salaries increasing every season, how much money can Tech really put out there...and how committed will the athletic department be to returning Tech back to football relevance?
Short answer is they got sick of Alabama BS. Tech wanted to raise sec academic standards and put an end to massive over signing, classes of 50 or more with kids dumped late so they couldn’t go anywhere else, Alabama led the way in shooting both things down. Dodd thought they could make it independently as a Norte Dame of the south.
Thanks Krono. I understand what you are saying. Just never knew exactly why they left. I saw them win their Co National Championship ( they shared with Colorado ) when they beat Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl back in the day. Nebraska had a deaf D- lineman in that game. GO GATORS!!!!
Always find it amusing that when I give a post a neg rep, that poster then finds the need to go back and do the same to one of mine. Weird.
