Lots of chatter with reports of military columns surrounding Xi residence. Could be his ongoing purge of anyone who might challenge him crossed a line the military didn't support

Military Coup in China, Xi Jinping under house arrest, General Li Qiaoming next President, say social media rumours

    S
ocial media is abuzz with the rumours of Chinese President Xi Jinping being put under house arrest, and a possible coup taking place in the country, a week after two of its former minister were sentenced for corruption - a highly controversial decision in nation's history.

As per the social media posts, many by experts across the fields from China itself, an unprecedented military movement was seen towards Xi Jinping's residence in Beijing. Military vehicles were seen making a movement close to Xi's residence. A few puported videos of such movements have also gone viral on social media. However, their is no official confirmation on the same.
A number of social media users from China said that a coup was almost confirmed as the country, without giving any specific reason, cancelled over 9,000 domestic flights. Some even said that military chief General Li Qiaoming is set to become next President

PLA military vehicles heading to #Beijing on Sep 22. Starting from Huanlai County near Beijing & ending in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, entire procession as long as 80 KM. Meanwhile, rumor has it that #XiJinping was under arrest after #CCP seniors removed him as head of PLA," a Twitter user who goes by the name Jennifer Zeng said.

"Something big is happening in China.. maybe a coup. 6000 flights have been canceled and there is big military movement going on," a social media user who goes by the name of Steve Smith said.

Could be. Probably even. But you have zero idea. Weird that you would jump so soon to assure us it is not so.

Totally agree. My bet is that this is all nonsense. To play devil’s advocate for fun, if it’s a military coup, then the impending election may not be important. Whatever the coup leaders would know that we wouldn’t would be most important.

We’re probably closer to the US military tossing Biden that the Russian military tossing Putin.

Odds for the former 1% and for the latter 0%.

Do you believe that leadership elections aren’t predetermined behind closed doors in almost all CCP elections?

Xi has imprisoned lots of wealthy and connected people from inside the CCP in an ongoing purge to solidify his power. He covers it under eliminating corruption. He may have went too far with the last 2

    https://newsonair.com/2022/09/24/ch...other-top-officials-for-bribe-abuse-of-power/

China handed over suspended death sentences to two ex-ministers and life sentences to four other top officials allegedly part of a “political clique” this week for corruption and abuse of power as the anti-graft campaign of President Xi Jinping is on the roll ahead of the 20th National Congress of the ruling Communist Party. China’s former vice minister of Public Security, Sun Lijun, who was accused of leading a “political clique” and being disloyal to President Xi Jinping, was given a suspended death sentence on Friday for taking bribes, manipulating the stock market, and illegally possessing firearms. Chinese state news agency reported that Sun, 53 was also deprived of his political rights for life, and all his personal assets were confiscated, as stated by a Changchun court in northeast China’s Jilin Province.
Local media said Sun’s sentencing came after five former police chiefs who were implicated in his corruption case were jailed earlier this week, indicating that the biggest purge in China’s security apparatus over the last five years is on the roll. The purge comes ahead of a major leadership reshuffle at the twice-a-decade Communist Party congress that begins on October 16, where President Xi is expected to secure a precedent-breaking third term in power becoming the only leader in People’s Republic of China after Mao Zedong.

Apart from a class I had at UF circa 1998 (which would be largely out of date today), I know almost nothing about Chinese politics. I know a bit more about their military and national security strategy, because it’s my profession to know that. I can tell you this: by design, a military coup would be very difficult to pull off. The entire enterprise is designed around preventing one. Unlike our own capital, military forces apart from the general staff are stationed a healthy distance away to make it difficult to maneuver into position. Political officers with a parallel chain of command are in every combat formation from battalion and up. Adjacent units and armed services are not permitted to coordinate directly with one another. The PRC has a paramilitary force called the PAP, which essentially exists for no reason than to protect the regime from coups. Other than that, sure, a coup could be underway. ;)

Sounds like Xi developed Julius Caesar disease. Got a little big for his britches.

This may also relate to the possibility that Xi was hell-bent on taking Taiwan, and the rest of them saw what happened to Russia and wanted no part of that scenario.

If the rumor is to be believed, the leader of the military is the coup leader. Who do you think the military would support, the general or Xi.
