England's NHS considers it a heartbeat. I linked it verbatim upthread.
You and your baby at 6 weeks pregnant

Again... People... The debate over if its a technically a heartbeat or not isn't relevent. She blamed the sound on "men" and thats pure made up nonsense.

Who was this fictitious man that manufactured this heartbeat in an effort to controll women?

I assume the creator of the modern ultrasound machine is the one that manufactured it. Are we aware of his motivation?

That is not what she said. She did not say that a man manufactured the heartbeat. She said that it was a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to control a woman's body.

"There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman's body."

Pretty silly debate regarding Abrams herself, unless someone is still trying to seriously pretend Abrams is even in the same convo with Hershey regarding intelligence. That's some commitment to the R cause, I'd give the axe-grinder that much.

It is obviously not a heartbeat, but so? All that language is just to manipulate emotionally guided people on the subject anyway. IOW, if you could alter reality and make the non-sounds actual sounds, so? What would change about the real debate? OR, if we simply accepted reality and everyone admitted there is not even a heart to beat, so? Who is going to be like "OH, it is NOT a heartbeat? Then by all means, abort away!"?

Someone like myself who believes all freedoms begin and end with personal autonomy are not swayed by a heartbeat, real or manufactured. Someone who uses language like "baby murder" will never back off the idea of conception, regardless of what organs exist when.

That portion of the thread shows why politicians are so dogmatic about talking points and nothing-speak. It works.

What's so dumb about it though? That she left out all the women who are also trying to exert this control? I mean I suppose it's incomplete and definitely watered down. But her audience is likely people who struggle with nuance and complexity.

I know a good chiropractor if you put your back out with that bend.

Again. Its pretty much an insult to whoever created the machine.

Its stupid and baseless beyond measure.

I think you've missed the point. This isnt about it being a heartbeat, though we have discussed it. This is about her stupid claim that it is a anti abortion conspiracy to call it one.

She probably thinks the NHS is trying to control womens bodies too I assume?

If you haven't figured that out by now, I suspect nothing I can offer will help.

Sorry just because you’ve been pregnant doesn’t mean you have the end all be all say.

That’s like telling some who hasn’t had cancer they can’t discuss the condition, diagnosis or treatment options.

There are millions of women who have been pregnant and can discuss how it feels to be pregnant but could not discuss anything more on the topic. Not to mention women who come in with stomach pain only to find out they are 40 weeks pregnant and in labor. (they are experts because they did it).

Compare that to Doctors, NPs,PAs who can give a full dissertation on the topic.

I haven't missed the point. I also haven't taken the bait and gone down the ludicrous rabbit hole to nowhere.

Quite a way of covering for saying something that isn't true. Try to turn your inaccuracy around on others for pointing out your inaccuracies.

Hold on man. She may be onto something.

Only people who've had children should comment on this.

How many kids does Ms Abrams have again? :)

    Maybe that’s the new standard.
Unless you have done it you can’t comment on it.

Lots of talking heads and Pols would be out of a job.

it's kinda humorous & sad that they are playing the let's focus on the heartbeat & that men want to control women & ignore the the dumb part - "designed"

It's a helluva conspiracy. Invent an instrument to detect flaws in ships, hoping that it is adopted for med use 15 years later so that it can generate a fake heartbeat.

prior to the 1970s, men didn't want to control women? Hmmm.

Why do so many anti-abortion groups push for laws requiring the mother to listen to the heartbeat before deciding to kill the child?

Good lord man. She blamed men. Any twisting of that is on you. Regardless she has no proof of her statement. It's made up political gibberish.

Yeah, that is still not what she said, regardless of your preference for that being true.
