I’m reading that if Russia does prevail in Ukraine, that the US is going to give Russia what-for by stirring up trouble in Iran.
Caught us again. We had a plant in the Iranian religious police whom we had torture a woman to death for not meeting the moral standards of the Islamic Republic (oh, the irony).
We need to start a war over this. But we can’t afford to lose two or more wars simultaneously. If we’re spoiling to lose to Iran, we need to get the loss to Russia over with quickly.

This is an interesting war because military production world-wide at this point probably can't keep up with the amount of equipment both countries are committing to the field for much longer. And if anyone is going to win a war of attrition it would certainly be Russia and China because they have more ability to mobilize and manufacture what is needed than the west is willing to commit to at this point. The more I read about how unready the US is for a major war and the more I read about how little we are doing about it the more nervous I get about Russia doing something uber aggressive that forces a response.

As I said, it’s easier to talk smack when you’re fighting ward with other countries’ soldiers. I’m just old enough to remember what a psychological blow losing in Vietnam was for the American public. But Ukraine is a proxy war. Even if the US loses, even if it loses decisively, the public can be shielded from the effects. Ex: if several regions of Ukraine are absorbed by Russia, even if Russia reduces Ukraine to a rump state, with no access to the sea, our government can always bellow, “Ha! See ? Russia thought they could conquer all of Ukraine! Indeed, we had reason to believe they wouldn’t have stopped their had the brave Ukrainians not halted their advance!”

Not sure words matter at this stage, nor do I really see this as a substantial de-escalation (not that I expect they would necessarily use nukes). I just think this is today’s lie. You can’t really take anything the Russians say at face value.
